I use the "Model T" theory on the KJVO myth.
The Model T, produced from 1909-1927, was by far the best-selling & most-popular car of its time. It was made to handle the roads of its day, which were often just horse paths or wagon trails. It was the first SUV, able to cross many creek beds or gullies. Yes, the Model T was well-suited for its time! It gave mobility to millions of Americans, &, unlike a horse, it didn't eat while not in use !
But by 1927, many roads were paved, & faster cars with more features, suited for paved roads, came along. FoMoCo came out with the Model A, replacing the Model T. However, many "flivvers" were still on the road for years. It remained the most-produced car for many years.
Having driven a pristine flivver from Portsmouth, OH to Cincinnati, I can tell you they were NOT suited to modern paved highways ! I was exhausted by its vibrating & shimmying, no heater, poor gas mileage (about 12-15 MPG) & lack of speed (50-55MPH) I was glad to have driven back in my new Fusion !
Same principle for the KJV. It was the ideal English Bible version for its time, and intended readership, the 17th C. British. But as time passed, the language changed, translators had more mss. & tools to work with, & the KJV became obsolete. But just as a quantity of Model Ts were still on the road come WW2, there are still many KJVs in use. While the KJV was an excellent version, despite its many goofs & booboos, it's far from the best English Bible version available today!
