I was thinking of immigrating to South Africa. Why South Africa? - climate, close to Christian or secular relief missions across Africa, and the peace and stability. I would like to settle for the long term, with the goal of permanent residency and eventually citizenship. I don't have a family of my own so my interest in South Africa is mostly due to the prospect of involving myself in missions across Africa.
But first I'd like to know about jobs. Is this a good time or a bad time? My skills are mostly in office admin, data/business analyst, and IT support and also quite capable in computer graphics in Adobe. I could quickly automate reports in Microsoft Excel/Access which some of my previous employers found quite invaluable in saving a lot of time and money in office admin/analyst work.
Anyway, how feasible it is at the moment to secure a job offer from a company based in South Africa from an overseas job applicant so I can apply for a work permit? Do I stand a good chance or the chances are very slim at this time?
Could anyone give me an idea regarding the cost of living? Cheap, used cars vs public transportation or bicyle? And other thing that might be important. I already know how to drive on the left side since I lived for more than a year in New Zealand.
Thanks a million for any advice you may give!
