  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Need help, considering immigrating to South Africa

I was thinking of immigrating to South Africa. Why South Africa? - climate, close to Christian or secular relief missions across Africa, and the peace and stability. I would like to settle for the long term, with the goal of permanent residency and eventually citizenship. I don't have a family of my own so my interest in South Africa is mostly due to the prospect of involving myself in missions across Africa.

But first I'd like to know about jobs. Is this a good time or a bad time? My skills are mostly in office admin, data/business analyst, and IT support and also quite capable in computer graphics in Adobe. I could quickly automate reports in Microsoft Excel/Access which some of my previous employers found quite invaluable in saving a lot of time and money in office admin/analyst work.

Anyway, how feasible it is at the moment to secure a job offer from a company based in South Africa from an overseas job applicant so I can apply for a work permit? Do I stand a good chance or the chances are very slim at this time?

Could anyone give me an idea regarding the cost of living? Cheap, used cars vs public transportation or bicyle? And other thing that might be important. I already know how to drive on the left side since I lived for more than a year in New Zealand.

Thanks a million for any advice you may give!

Wish I could help you but my knowledge of immigrating to South Africa has really faded. I tried it once but it didn't work out. A whole different story compared to your case. How about try Google and look for jobs in SA that you could apply for and then start from there. I wouldn't about used cars but I used the train almost always when I was there and that is more than 4 yrs ago. It also depends on which part of the country you choose to live. I was in Cape Town. Lovely place! Any way it is a suggestion. By the way you could also look for jobs on Gumtree. I'm poor at remembering the exact site.Good luck!
