a woman cannot give birth to a God. because God created her.

But Mother Mary was used by God to contain the Baby of Jesus without sexual relation with a man. God used her womb to manifest His Son Jesus Christ.

So Jesus was born from Mary but it doesnt mean that a woman can give birth to God.

Jesus bless you.

The straightforward answer IMO is "no - a woman cannot give birth to God". God has always existed and certainly before the earth and all of it's life forms existed.

The issue is I believe is to do with the deity of Jesus Christ in human form. A potential question could be: "can a woman give birth to a human who is also 100% divine?". My answer to this question would be "yes".

Jesus - the son of Mary - was without sin

Jesus - the son of Mary - could forgive people of sin(s)

"Only God can be without sin and only God can forgive sins" exclaim people form various religious backgrounds.

You seem to be confusing-give-birth to with create or beget.

Though, as has been pointed out, "mother of god" etc are slighltly clumsy renditions into English of Theotokos, which more precisely means "god-bearer". Ie the one who carried God in her womb.

"You seem to be confusing-give-birth to with create or beget." I'm not quite sure what to make of that since Theotokos can refer to "God-bearer", "Birth-Giver of God" and "the one who gives birth to God" .... as a matter of interest could you share your answer to the question posed by Helena22: "Can a woman give birth to God?" Perhaps it would help me to understand a bit more clearly. Thanks

I keep getting this question from Muslims, and I am stuck. As some of you may know I am new to Christianity from Islam, maybe some of you might be able to help.

Can a women can give a birth to God ? That is the question which no Christian can answer in proper manner nor in logical

Hi there,

All things are possible if God wills them to be. Mary gave birth to Jesus who is the son of God - one of the forms of God like water has three different forms (gas, liquid, solid).

Luke 1:37

For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Job 42:2 ESV / 32 helpful votes

“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted

Luke 18:27 ESV / 31 helpful votes

But he said, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

It is the belief that Jesus is the son of God, was crucified and ressurrected that saves us from Hell.

Not just can but did. If God becomes incarnate he can and was born. That's fundamental to Christianity.

Yes you are right - it was my feeble attempt at distinguishing between God the Father and God the Son!

Faith in Jesus, the Christ of God, is well explained in some of the posts here; and one should be reminded that even Islam is about faith. If one finds the story of Mohammad hardly godly, and the teaching of Islam not fitting, one in that religion or any other such religion, should see the consistency and godly revelation in the Bible and pray about it.
Just be sure in reading the Bible to be "rightly dividing the Word of Truth", which also means to know the Church in the new Testament and the Gospel message there, is not the same as the religion and covenants given to Israel. The NT church concerns the Bride of Christ only.

What we say regarding Christ's mother is tied directly to Christology. We call her Theotokos (God bearer) because she bore God in her womb. Remember, Christ is fully God and fully man.

I've always found it interesting that in Islam they accept that Mary was a virgin, yet they are ignorant as to why this is important. Muslim's also believe, as Christians do, that Christ is God the Word. Yet again, they fail to realize the significance of this. In Christianity, the scriptures tell us the following:

John 1:1-18

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend[a] it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own,[c] and His own[d] did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’”

16 And[e] of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son,[f] who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

Muslims say that Jesus is the Word of God and Spirit. It says this in the Quran regarding Jesus.

Kalima tu’llah—"The Word of Allah (God)
Ruhun min Allah—"A spirit from Allah (God)."

If so, and to all evidence the Quran does seem to claim this about Jesus, and since they believe that Jesus isn't God, then they have a serious problem. If Christ isn't God, then they believe that God is without word or spirit. If I'm also not mistaken, the Quran refers to Christ as the Messiah, but yet again, Islam is ignorant as to the significance.

As St. Athanasios said, "God became man so that man might become like God." (This doesn't mean we literally become God- just that we can attain salvation.) Via the incarnation, we now have a way to salvation. Christ defeated sin and death. Our entire purpose for being is communion with God. The Theotokos, because of her complete obedience to God, is considered to be an example to us of a human who has drawn near to God in theosis (salvation). This is only possible through Christ. What a miracle this was, that the God of the universe would contain himself in her womb! This is why we also say that her womb is more spacious than the heavens.

Anyway, the Church also looks to the Old Testament when speaking of the Theotokos. We see her in the burning bush and we see her as the Ark of the New Covenant (she carried God within her). She is a holy person. Again, if one denies that she is called Theotokos (God bearer) then they deny the divinity of Christ.

If a Muslim asks how this is possible, then they must not believe that God can do anything.

Just be sure in reading the Bible to be "rightly dividing the Word of Truth", which also means to know the Church in the new Testament and the Gospel message there, is not the same as the religion and covenants given to Israel. The NT church concerns the Bride of Christ only.

Note that all genetic Jews in the church remain members of whichever tribe of Israel they were born into (Romans 11:1, Acts 4:36). And all genetic Gentiles in the church have been grafted into Israel (Romans 11:17,24, Ephesians 2:12,19, Galatians 3:29), and so have been grafted into its various tribes (cf. Ezekiel 47:21-23). So the entire church is the 12 tribes of Israel (Revelation 21:9,12; 1 Peter 2:9-10). This is necessary, for all those in the church are saved only by the New Covenant (Matthew 26:28; 1 Corinthians 11:25; 2 Corinthians 3:6, Hebrews 9:15), and the New Covenant is made only with Israel (Jeremiah 31:31-34, John 4:22b). John 10:16 refers to the "other sheep" of believers who are Gentiles being brought into "this fold" of Israel, which is the same as the "one fold" of the church (1 Corinthians 12:13, Ephesians 4:4-6, Revelation 21:9,12). A genetic Gentile believer can pray and ask which tribe of Israel he has been grafted into, and he will receive an answer from God, if he asks in faith (cf. Matthew 21:22), without any wavering (cf. James 1:6-7).

Also, all those in the church, no matter whether they are genetic Jews (Acts 22:3) or genetic Gentiles (Romans 16:4b), have become spiritually-circumcised Jews if they have undergone the spiritual circumcision of water-immersion (burial) baptism into Jesus (Romans 2:29, Philippians 3:3, Colossians 2:11-13).
