So then my wife says, "That doesn't make sense. Charles can never be king anyway because he had a divorce. That's why the Queen Mother was against him divorcing Diana. So Prince William is next in line to be King now."
So... what's the real deal here? Is it true that Prince Charles can never be king now that he's had a divorce?

The Prince of Wales' divorce does
not affect his constitutional position as heir to the British throne. I found the following on the British Monarchy's Official Website:
"Royal marriages in Britain are regulated by two statutes: the Act of Settlement (1701), and the Royal Marriages Act (1772). The 1701
Act of Settlement laid down that neither a Catholic nor a person marrying a Catholic could come to the throne. The
Royal Marriages Act provides that the marriage of any lineal descendant of George II is invalid unless royal consent has first been obtained. However if the Sovereign does not give consent, a member of the Royal Family may, at the age of 25, signify to the Privy Council his or her intention to marry without the consent of the Sovereign. The marriage can then lawfully take place unless both Houses of Parliament expressly disapprove.
Beyond those acts, there are no requirements or regulations as to who a member of the Royal Family can marry."

Although I believe Prince Charles has every right to be happy, I still think it's in some way rotten he's marrying the women that caused Princess Di such sorrow.
And Princess Diana didn't cause him pain as well by having her affairs? Besides Charles is very happy being with Camilla, and his boys are happy if there dad is happy too. If it makes Diana's boys happy then I don't think his marriage to Camilla is "rotten" at all.

I think Prince Charles should have married Camilla in the first place. The problem was she wasn't a virgin, and Prince Charles had to marry a virgin, and that is why he married Dianna.
Actually, that was only part of the problem. The other difficulty is that Camilla wasn't born "high enough". Camilla was not a member of the aristocracy (like Lady Diana Spencer was) or a member of any Royal family.
I wish them all the best-it's about time they got married.
