Need Advice from Bird Lovers

I have a birdbath that I want to paint but I want to make sure on the bowl that I use a non-toxic paint so it will not injure the birds but it must be exterier and adhere to concrete. Any advice?

Try to find a foodsafe paint then, Don't know of any of the top of my head though.

Check with your local hoby shop for paints that you can use of plates that you would eat off of.

But it would have to be weather-proof as well. Have you tried asking at a paint or hardware store?

I asked at a Lowes but I don't think they really knew what they were talking about. They were just guessing which is what I am doing. I think I will try a nursery that sells birdbaths and a paint store too. Thanks to both of you for the replies.

I would phone the wildlife/vets people what paints are safe or go to your Garden shop many bird baths come in allot of colors.

I would use non toxic paint. be sure the paint is dry before putting bird in bath.

I would recommend taking a wire brush and scrub off all of the pots and the like. Then I would move to knocking the excess material off the feeder.

Once everything is cleaned up nicely, paint with engine paint. It caustic when compared with what you put on your walls.

Allow for it to dry 24 - 48 hours

I don't know of any specific brands... But you have to be very, very selective. Birds have extremely delicate lungs and the fumes from the weather resistent and heavy duty paints that i've been around will kill the bird. Also keep in mind that just because you can't smell it anymore doesn't mean the fumes are gone.

Go to one of those pottery stores and get paint for making plates and bowls.
