  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just wanted some info for those who might know. In the mail, was a brochure from the Navy regarding becoming an intelligence specialist.

The questions:

1. What are the physical requirements? I'm used to desk jobs and my dad, who was in the army, has told me how strenuous it was in his basic training. Not sure if the same applies to Naval Intelligence

2. What are the chances of being called to Iraq as a Navy Reserves member?

Thanks!

My step-brother is a gunnersmate in the US Navy and he is currently in Iraq working with the Navy Seals on special operations or something like that. I know for him bootcamo was very strenuous and as an intelligence personel, training is most likely not strenuous, but you might be called to Iraq to work with the computer systems and everything they have over there. I do know the Army Reserve and National Guard has been placed in Iraq...

I can email my step-brother and get back to you in a few days, if you want me to

Okay he got back to me before I thought he would. he said Naval Intelligence is just as likely to get deployed as any other Naval soldier. My step-Uncle is an IT1, and he works in an office all day at Naval Station Norfolk. He is really not eligable to be deployed because he is a single dad of 4 kids. So thats the information I was able to get out of him, hope I helped!

Doesn't matter what your specialty is/may be. Bootcamp is bootcamp. Navy bootcamp was a breeze, a lot of fun actually. If you can run and pay attention then you'd have no problems. After bootcamp you'd go to school and learn your trade. Yeah, you still have to participate in physical training a couple times a week throughout a career but it's nothing to get flustered about.

Deploying as a Naval Resrvist, depends on the needs of the Navy.
