Is this a good thing or bad? Does this contradict Jesus's message of love and peace?
It's a very good thing. It is necessary if a country expects to survive. The world is an anarchy and its citizens are the countries in it. There are no friends. Only Allies, as the US and USSR were during WWII. Take away nationalism and the country collapses like a balloon losing its air.

Obama drove us to it.

Globalism is the act of acquiescing a country's sovereignty to some other government. Nationalism is the opposite. A strong country is a nationalistic country. Take away nationalism and the country soon evaporates into nothing.

American nationalism isn't bad, part of it is our history and culture of liberty and inclusion. Nationalism in other countries may not include that, and may be more dangerous.

"Our nationalism is superior to other countries' nationalism. Indeed our nationalism is good and other countries' nationalism is bad."

Nationalism concerning your nationalism? That's nationalism divided by zero. Impressive.

We're a nation of immigrants, that's part of our identity. Not all other countries have that as part of their identity.

If Nationalism makes war more likely, it is bad. If Nationalism can act as a check on the power of global financial elites who effectively undermine national economies ability to provide for their own people, I think its more likely to be a good thing but could still have its share of drawbacks. I'm not sure what Jesus would say.
But anything short of being a doormat makes war more likely?

Yes but after a certain point, whwn does it just become replacing and pretending that a certain segment of the population doesn't exist any more? Don't we have enough people in our country as it is or should we export people like we export products.

You have to remember, populatons don't just disappear.

Nationalism like protectionalism is a current political trend, opposed to the hazards of globalism and open boarders. It ebbs and flow and while it's on the rise in Europe and the US, it's just a trend. Globalism at the end of the Cold War rebuilt eastern Europe and included China in the World Trade Organization. It was a good thing in a lot of ways but people are wondering where our manufacturing base went and Englad doesn't like open boarder immigration or taking orders from Brussels. The trend of nationalism will be woefully short as compared to globalism but the need for a more nationalistic tone is evident and obvious.

It's not the answer and certainly not needed to save our nation from serious threats. The tide goes out, it comes back in, it ebbs and flows. It will shift again, it always does.

This is what I don't understand though. When it comes to the case of either being nationalist or globalist, it is not so easy definable or black and white. Acknowledging such a thing does not make one a fascist in itself, only if it is taken to an extreme incarnation of itself.

I want to say those complaining about nationalist are kind of hypocrites since likewise, globalism is quite extreme whwn you look at the policies it has been associated with or has helped to implement and put into action.

I think right now, I think what people are really discussing is, do you think there should be borders and countries at all, versus should everything be open like that?

I'm not convinced it's either or, I think there is a balance. No one has truly open boarders and everyone has a stake in global trade. Englad is a microcosm in all this, they never surrendered the pound to the Euro and when immigration got to be a problem they left the EU. Fascism is a more extreme form of nationalism and the US has never really been nationalist socialist. We have looked at and even tried some of those approaches and found they don't work.

Either extreme can alarm the middle with the dangers of the other extreme, any fool can do that. I can be a coward or a reckless fool trying to be a hero but somewhere in the middle is real courage. Balance is not easy but its nessacary, traveling down a road with two dtches on either side, does it really matter which ditch you end up in, the goal is to stay on the road and move forward without going into a ditch.

Well your right but Clinton in 2016 described open boarders, it's a bad idea. Trump says he wants a complete ban on Muslims. That's a mistake to. Its not a high wire but there is a balance, most people can discern where that's at.

Well it is exactly what Jesus said would happen

(ASV) For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines
and earthquakes in divers places.
(BBE) For nation will be moved against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and men will be
without food, and the earth will be shaking in different places;
(KJV) For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
Mathew 24:7

Nationalism from small regions wanting independence - South Sudan and Catalonia - to
conflict between the big players.
I will make America great again - nationalism
Russian Orthodoxy being the moral superiority of Russia over the decadent West.
Russia in Syria challenging American military hegemony.
Hungary and Poland standing up against the EU.
So many civil wars in Africa.
India and China muscling each other.
India and Pakistan with nukes.
And then there's the Koreas.

But Muslim is a religion, I think if a group based on some sort of idealoogy or belief system poses a threat, I do not understand what is wrong with taking clesr and decisive actions instead of avoiding the problem altogether.

If they said "ban terrosrists" or "ban violent people" it would be on a set of characterstics or beliefs they have. Ban people who are not compatible with liberal democratic ideas and have no desire to assimilate.

Like I think people are being too squeamish amd sensitive when it comes to borders because of what had happened in the past. Besdies that, it's just life anyway, geesh.

Ha ha ha

I know it will make everyone angry, but how many photos of there covered in blood with swords? [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse], what is wrong with banning groups that are not compatible with western ideas of democracy and are hopelessy backwards?

Link between Islam and terrorism?
There is a clear link between Islam and terrorism. It's up to all of us to break it

"

(Aria Grande concert bombing LOL)
Terror links
French interior minister Gerard Collomb has said Abedi is believed to have travelled to Syria and had "proven" links with the terror group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

Mr Collomb told French television that both British and French intelligence services had information that Abedi had been in Syria."

America is a land that God prepared for the descendants of Joseph, and by extension other descendants of Israel as well (recall they also followed him to Egypt). The early 'immigrants' left England and Europe for what was actually their new 'homeland', so the term immigrant really doesn't apply to them.
