I was crying at the end of Lion Witch and Wardrobe at the crowning ceremony. Beautiful comparison to us entering heaven. The one thing that was omitted from that one that ticked me off was a conversation involving the beavers talking to someone about Aslan with the key line being something along the lines of :

Safe? Of course he's not safe he's a lion,but he is good. SOOOO much truth about God/Jesus in that line.

What's also interesting is how the children are transformed by being in Narnia. How they become more their true selves, more noble, honest and brave, a good analogy for how we become in Christ.

Yikes, sorry, I thought it was just Lord of the Rings you hadn't read.

The Silver Chair was my favorite of all the books btw. I liked the air of mystery and adventure, the darkness of the story, Puddleglum, the more strange parts of Narnia, the isolation they had.

I'm currently watching Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the newest Narnia movie.

I find that Jason and I are the only two people we know who have absolutely loved all of the newest Narnia movies. I've read almost all of the books and love those as well, but there's something about the movies that I find...fascinating. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe movie was exactly as I imagined it when I first read it as a third grader. Prince Caspian was also just as I'd imagined it, and Voyage of the Dawn Treader(although not very accurate to the book) was still an entertaining movie. And, I have to admit, I love the actors. Edmund, Caspian and Lucy...I love them.

Anyone else love the movies?

I love the books!! Actually, Voyage of the Dawn Treader has always been my favorite of the chronicles I also loved the movie! I felt that they did a really good job on it even though much was left out.

When I was little, oh how I used to fantasize about finding Narnia in closets and going on adventures there

Fantasy movies like Narnia, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter seem to be in vogue right now. Its a fad, it will pass. LOR and Narnia are Christian fads too. They will pass...

The fact that LOR and Narnia are as old as they are and multiple movies have been made based on them would seem to suggest otherwise. The only difference this time is that movie making technology has improved to the point where the movies can actually be good.

Old?? A 50 some odd year old book is what you call old?? I know people who are older then that and the human lifespan is relatively short.

If its still extremely popular in 150 years, maybe it will be something more then just a fad.

Most of the Christian books I read from are almost 500 years old. Some are 1600 years old. (The writing not the actual physical book.) 50 years doesn't impress me at all.

Luther....his point is valid, not withstanding that you prefer such Lit-rah-cher (spelled phonetic)....his point was 50 years in terms of a FAD is long, there aren't many 50 year old fads, I fail to see the need to therefore go back at him saying they are old, when his meaning wasnt anything remotely to do with the points you responded with.

Most fads that I know of have a shelf life of 3 to 5 years, MAYBE 10 for an exceptionally long lived one.

Sounds like maybe just a defintional difference over what constitutes a fad.

50 years in a 2000 year old church qualifies as a FAD.

If people several generations from now. . . presuming Jesus does not return before then are still reading this work, then it will then be considered an important work in the Christian church.

But I certainly doubt, that presuming that Christs does not return before then that Christians in 3000 AD will be reading Lord of the Rings or the Chronicals of Narnia on a regular basis.

However in 3000 AD I guarentee you that Augustine and Iraneus will still be read and quoted by Christians.

I just do not see those works to be major works in the history of the Christian church. I have seen the movies, they are somewhat entertaining, but not worth the accolades that they get.

I can agree with that. I do have a much higher standard for Christian works then secular because Christian beliefs have remained for 2000 years while secular is open to constant change.

You also have to anaylse what you will think will happen to something as time passes. For example its unlikely that the internet is a fad because 10 to 15 years of evidence has shown no drop in popularity and it has moved and shaped the world. The entire world has changed due to its presence.

However Tolken has gone up and down in popularity and has never really moved and shaped the church in a major way. No doctrine or teaching has been explained or understood by the church better because of Tolken or Lewis. Therefore in my opinion a fad.

I was confused at the end when Lucy asks if it was their last time in Narnia and Aslan says yes. I thought they were in the Last Battle too?

I am excited for The Silver Chair and the Last Battle. And, of course, for The Horse and Its Boy and The Magician's Nephew. The creation of Narnia....powerful.

I am in tears at the end of voyage yet again. I'm excited for the day when we get to heaven so that I may feel like Lucy going to Narnia.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader was the last adventure they were in while they were alive. The Last Battle takes place after they died in a train wreck.

I read the Chronicles of Narnia the first time when I was 21, and have read them numerous times since then. I love Narnia!

I read the books about 20 years ago and saw The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. The books were okay, but I didn't like the movie and haven't seen the others. I think Lewis has written much better books than the Narnia series and never could quite figure out why Narnia is so beloved. To each his own, I guess.

I've said this before I think, but I liked the movies with the exception of making Peter look kind of like a punk in the second one. He wasn't a punk at all. Of course, just defensive about my favorite character.

He was a nice guy in the book.
