  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I read the books a long time ago but I still enjoy Narnia. The Horse and his Boy was my favorite (though I still fail to see what its signifigance in the series was) with Dawn Threader being my second favorite.

Oh, and I loved the movie. Some people thought it was dumb to include the humourus lines that weren't in the book but I thought they were a nice touch.

I haven't read them all (only Lion Witch and Wardrobe, Horse and His Boy, and the Magicians Nephew, and I'm in the middle of Prince Caspian)
I LOVE THEM!!!
many people seem to disagree. they think that they're unchristian, but C.S. Lewis was christian.

I just finished them all and loved them, however I was surprised to find 2 curse words in them a few times. If I had known about these books when my kids were small and read them to them, not sure how I would have handled those instances!

yeah, the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is one big allegory. basically, Aslan represents Jesus Christ, and Edmund, the boy who betrays his brother and sisters, represents us, the sinners. Aslan, who had "committed no treachery" sacrifices himself to save Edmund from the White Witch(who represents Satan), and then comes back from the dead, just as Christ, who was perfect and never sinned, died on the cross to save sinners from eternal death, and rose from the dead.

i love the narnia books they are so cool i have read every one of them and they are the best books i have ever read and i do think they are cristian books because my mom was watching the movie with me and she was telling me how every one of the characters was representing someone in the bible, and when the lion comes back to life it is like jesus on the cross comeing back to life to help every one.

The Narnia novels are so blatantly Christian that I even noticed its metaphorical layers as a seven-year-old. I'd even go so far as to call them blunt. It takes quite a lot to miss it.

Some people think the Narnia books are evil because they have magic and talking animals in them. I even visited a site once that talked about how Narnia is evil because of not only the first two, but because Turkish Delight isn't a candy, but a popular drug in the Middle East. Looks like someone didn't do their research....

It's impossible to miss the Christian references in the Narnia books.

Wow, they think what? They really didn't do any research, did they?

Since when does research play any part in this sort of scandalized fundamentalist panicking?

Just remember how they tried to claim that "Harry Potter" was a propagandistic how-to manual for "Satanic Wiccan" [sic] rituals and magic.

Hmm, I don't see any scandal here, or panic, or fundemential anything for that matter. Or propaganda either. Not with either set of books. Mind you, Lewis was writing from a Christian mindset. C.K. from another. Nothing wrong with either author doing so. If you're talking about fanatics getting panic-driven over anything, I'll grant you fanatics never solved anything.

Yup, it was the fanatics I was talking about - the sort of people that will demand that the "Oz"-books are banned from school libraries because one of the witches in it is a good witch.
The sort of people that will object to pupils reading the diary of Anne Frank, as the poor girl expressed that she doubted the existence of God.

And yes, I agree - fanatics have never solved anything.
