Species seem to evolve more in response to external conditions then anything else. There are genomic mechanisms that know when it's time to adapt and most species can on a vast array.

Yes, that must be why the passenger pigeon evolved to breed more prolifically and in smaller groups just in time to avoid going extinct in the wild in 1900.

That must also be why all the flightless birds of New Zealand have evolved flight just in time to escape being devoured by introduced predators such as cats.

You may want to read up on the Lederberg experiments of 1952 - then again, your views have always proved highly resistant to the depredations of reality and it's hard to see why things should be any different this time.

Hi papias,

I'm not sure what you're referring to as 'my 78%'. I didn't write anything about 78%. The article I posted had a comment in it that 78% of Americans seemed to agree with Mike Huckabee's position, however, I agree with you that that is not a correct correlation of the evidence.

The article I posted ends with the sentence ...nothing to do with what it takes to be president. The article was apparently written back in the days when Mike Huckabee had come out in his presidential campaign bid as not agreeing with evolutionary theory and so the poll was gathered in order to show that for some odd reason, while the majority of the nation does claim to agree with that belief over any other, why then is there such a firestorm against Mike Huckabee's position.

Of course, my answer to that is that we have now become a nation where it isn't necessarily what the majority wants, but what the loudest and most dogmatic who might attack other positions wants.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

A notable lack of soil buried under rock.
I'm not going to claim such evidence would "only" fit a young earth view.
You'd have to admit defeat if I did that.
If soil was buried under millions of tonnes of other sediment, what would it look like?

If soil is on the ground being buried, what would it be buried with? Would that affect the soil in any way?

I'm just wanting clarification on what you are specifically expecting to find. Should we be digging through rock and come across soft soil that we can dig through with our hands?

"Scientists have confirmed the existence of protein in soft tissue recovered from the fossil bones of a 68 million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex (T. rex) and a half-million-year-old mastodon."

An alternate view is that the dating method is wrong.

Your "best argument" and "only one interpretation" rules are unheard of for a scientific request for papers so....
You'll probably find the first half of this video to be quite enlightening.

2 questions:How old? Can you show me the calculations for how the grand canyon could have formed much faster? I'm just trying to understand what your model is.

This article explains:
Unfortunately, these catastrophic megafloods -- which also may have chiseled out spectacular canyons on Mars—generally leave few telltale signs to distinguish them from slower events.

Something like this.

I don't debate videos, but thanks. It's too hard to quote or do fact checks.

To ted and skywriting, there's a lot to respond to so I'll have to get back to your posts later when I have more time.

I'm bored with your request and challenge already. Take care.

The video looks right at the scientific peer reviewed papers for the study. They are put on screen so the fact checking is quite easy to do. However, I do understand not wanting to debate a video, so later this evening I'll type some of it out for you.

Your original assertion is that we should find more soil. I was asking for clarification on exactly what that would look like. The link in your response doesn't seem to be related. Could you please clarify your point? I don't want to jump to conclusions or argue a strawman of what you are actually trying to say.

I am typing the following with a genuinly polite attitude, just giving my perspective of a recap of the thread so far.

So far the YEC who have chimed in are:

Juve: Although I'm not sure if Juve is a YEC, I need him to answer my questions about what his actual views are on the age of the earth. He has alluded to evidence, but I'd still like to get the specifics from him which I'm sure will come.

Miamited: Doesn't want to talk about science admitting there is no evidence for a young earth and would rather talk about theology. That's fine, I'll still be responding to his last post but I'll probably start a new thread to do so since it is getting more in depth and it is off topic.

MK: Alluded to his problems with brain evolution that have been discussed at length in other threads. I had followed up by asking when he thinks humans were created and where they first appeared, but he hasn't been back yet to answer (I'm sure he will be).

Skywriting: Made mention of the lack of soil in the geological column and the "soft tissue" found in fossil dinosaurs but seems to be unwilling to discuss them. (I still want to discuss them if you're willing to.)

I'm surprised at just how little is being offered here by the YECs. Maybe a YEC can start a thread asking TEs to provide just one piece of evidence, and we'll see what kind of responses it get. It would be interesting to compare the two threads.

Which ones?

What happens to layers if you bend them when they are soft? Don't they settle or get mixed together?
Actually I haven't been around a world wide flood lately to watch but the last one sure idicated that they dont - well at least in the cases where they didn't

But we continue to understand how sediment acts in certain conditions so what research has been done to show that folded layers of strata were more likely caused by a flood while they were soft?

Ancient soil can be identified, which is called "paleosol". It can even be identified in metamorphic rocks.
