ELOHIM as I have stated is a title or surname of all THREE BEINGS and their NAMES are YAHWEH ELOHIM, YAHSHUA ELOHIM, and HOLY SPIRIT ELOHIM. Last names are titles or surname that even you have and can be traced back to an ancestor that is all. stinsonmarri
"Elohim" is a name, not "the" name to call God; whether it is 1 or all 3 of the "eternal Godhead." (Rom 1:20). As I have been pointing out, there are hundreds of names by which God is addressed in the Bible; and if the Bible so addresses Him this way; we may have the assurance that we can, and should address Him in these ways too.

For eg; I have identified 56 pre-eminent pronouns which the Bible uses to address/name God. These are very important things for christians to know about God, and to try and interject them all with some version of "Elohim" simply would not allow this precious knowledge to come to light. As John 17:3 tells us; it is "eternal life" to know Him, and Who He has sent.

There are, of course, many more ways by which scripture assures us that we can personally address God. But if one were to take some time and actually go through each of the scripture references I have just provided, there would be nothing to complain about here. Our Lord is wonderful; and these scriptures show just some of the different ways we can see our Lord. :)

The name Yehowah is replaced by the word LORD in the King James Version. #3068 in Strong's Concordance and yes it is written over 6000 times. And if you look at the name Jesus #2424 it refers you to the Hebrew #3091 Yehowshuwa. Those are the true names Yehowshuwa came in his Father's name.

Seems quite a few people have "the true name" yet they all have a different one to tell us. I will go with what the Bible calls our Lord, and I have so far posted hundreds of names.

EDIT: Word Lord is found 7970 times in the Bible, out of those #H3068 is found 6749 times. Meaning that there are 1221 instances where "Lord" is not used for H3068. So it is not fair to the Bible writer's intentions or contexts to say "Yhovah" is "the proper name for God; it is one of the many names for God in the Bible. It is very interesting though to search out all these names for God; we can learn a lot about Him this way. (John 17:3)

Following up on your comment:

There is no W in old Hebrew--

We are looking at two different languages and the symbols they use for reading and writing. You have to understand linguistic which is the study and understanding of human language as a specialty in college. I had to take some courses because as a Biblical historian it is required. You have to understand real meanings that are hidden through the various symbol man use known as language. You must be able to comprehend changes in language (including new words, constructions, or usages). This is a normal and inevitable part of the language's evolution and you finally must capture the complex interaction of language. This is no easy matter but it can be understood today. That is why languages are now easily taught and learn today even over the internet.

Biblical Hebrew contains 22 letters that are actually listed in Psalm 119. These symbol or letters are all consonants. The original Hebrew language remained what is call "pure" until Israel was taken by Babylon. Which by the way the Chaldean were Israel cousins and the land of Chaldee was where Abraham originated. Then the Hebrew language came under the influence of other languages, particularly Aramaic of the Chaldeans. Aramaic was the "lingua franca" of the Middle East even during the time of the SAVIOR and several centuries after. Because Israel was disperse to Babylon and Egypt, knowledge of pre-exilic texts was dependent on oral tradition. However this gave rise to an ambiguity of interpretation for a text written purely in consonants. Now before letters there were picture script to show what was meant and some languages still use a form of picture symbols namely the Asiatic languages. The "W" is an English symbol of our alphabet that best correlates to the ancient Hebrew to give the sound of "Waw" which appears in this symbol form ו today in modern Hebrew it sounds like "Vav." Here is a chart to show how we practice using what is called "matres lectionis" that comes from Latin that means "mothers of reading" using certain consonants to indicate a vowel in Hebrew.

Symbol: א Biblical and Modern sound is Alef - Vowel formation-ê, ệ, ậ, â, ô -Vowel quality-mostly ā
Symbol: ה Biblical and Modern sound is He - Vowel formation-ê, ệ, ậ, â, ô - Vowel quality- mostly ā or e
Symbol: ו Biblical is Waw and Modern sound is Vav- Vowel formation-ô, û- Vowel quality- ō or ū
Symbol: י Biblical is Yod and Modern sound is Yud- Vowel formation-î, ê, ệ- Vowel quality- ī, ē or ǣ Adopted From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As you can see the "Vav" sound is modern and not Biblical and I take the original Biblical for YHWH.

Never heard your name for God in Chinese, any African dialect, not in Russian--certainly never heard it in Spanish, Japanese or any other language, including that of the American Indian, not even among the Eskimos, specifically, Manilaq, the Eskimo who was given insight into the Sabbath 100 years before any white man showed up, have you read about him? just look his name up. God gave Him many messages to give to his people that when the white man came, they were ready for them--Manilaq called God--Grandfather. If God wanted to be called a certain name, He could have very easily informed him of that. God cannot be limited.

Again it appears that you do not understand that god is an English word. The English language today has become the "lingua franca" and is spoken in all countries of the world. However let me make it very clear to you that the ancient knew YAHWEH before Israel and a form of HIS NAME has been found as I indicated:

"Professor Hommel, the well-known Assyriologist and Professor of Semitic languages at Munich, suggests that this god Ya is another form of the name Ea..." (p. 59, Theophilus G. Pinches, The Old Testament in the Light of the Historical Records and Legends of Assyria and Babylonia, London Society For Promoting Christian Knowledge 1908)

. . .The Assyro-Babylonian divine name Ya'u "god," which is cognate with the Hebrew Yah or, as it is generally written, Jah...There is one thing that is certain, and that is, that the Chaldean Noah, Pir-napishtim, was faithful in the worship of the older god, who therefore warned him, saving his life." (p.112-114, "The Flood" Theophilus G. Pinches, The Old Testament in the Light of the Historical Records and Legends of Assyria and Babylonia London. Society For Promoting Christian Knowledge 1908)

"For two opposing views see John Gray, 'The god Yaw in the Religion of Canaan,' in Journal of Near Eastern Studies. Chicago. Vol. 12 1953, pp. 278-283 and Garbini, op. cit., pp. 57-58. Gray cites the scholars who originally identified Yaw with Yahweh but rejects the identification, Garbini reaffirms it. Redford op. cit., p. 272, holds Yahweh was first worshipped by proto-Israelites in Edom." (p.246, note 5, to p. 132, Norman Cohn. 1993)

And I saw Heaven opened, and behold a white horse: and HE that sat upon him was called FAITHFUL and TRUE, and in Righteousness HE doth judge and make war. HIS Eyes were as a flame of fire, and on HIS Head were many crowns and HE had a name written that NO MAN KNEW, but HE HIMSELF. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called the WORD of ELOHIM. Rev 19:11-13

And they shall see His face, and His name shall be in their foreheads. Rev 22:4

I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA, THE BEGINNING AND THE END, THE FIRST AND THE LAST. I YAHSHUA have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the Bright and MORNING STAR. Rev 22:13, 16

Yes when the SAVIOR comes back HE will have a NEW NAME but HE is known by the NAME YAHSHUA. I have no problems at all with these Scriptures the problem lies sadly with you. You wanted to know if the NAME YAHWEH was present before Israel and I said yes. The Sabbath and all of the Commandments were given to Adam and the NAME YAHWEH was also known by him. When man became disobedient ELOHIM confounded the languages HIS true name was taken and spread all over the world. Many remember a form of it but through sin others completely forgotten it. When ELOHIM came to Israel and gave them the same Commandments and Laws that Adam had only broken down to meet man at his level of understanding. Man was reminded to correctly say HIS NAME again and not to change it or to use pagan names in place of HIS NAME. In these last days all truth will be reveal before the SAVIOR will come this is one of them. As I stated to Castaway, I will say to you it is a choice. I can present numerous of evidence from known Biblical scholars but the Bible speaks for itself. I take the English transliterated language of the Hebrew symbols or alphabet YHWH which sounds is YAHWEH. I will not use the title god instead I will use the correct title in the Bible ELOHIM. It appears that is what you want to do and that is your choice. I am a presenter but not the HOLY SPIRIT HE is the only ONE that lead people to all truth by asking HIM. The path to Salvation is narrow and straight and I choose to follow that path. I will pray for you and I hope you will do the same for me. As we approach the Time of Trouble it is my prayer that if I or you is right we will both know before it is too late.

Blessings on you and President Obama and all those in the recent storm,

I will only write a few words instead I will let the Biblical Experts, EGW, and especially the Bible speak on every comment made! That is your choice but I want it to be known this is written in English and it does not mean YAHWEH.

Master, master, lord = Baal (Heb. ba`al, “master”), applied only to heathen deities, or to the man as husband, and so on, or to one especially skilled in a trade or profession. See Baal.

This is used as a proper name of God and should have been retained in that form by the translators.” Since we know that most translators have mistranslated the name of the Almighty, by calling Him, “LORD,” instead of, “Yahweh,” we will now research the word “God.” Perhaps there are similar translator errors here as well. New Unger’s Bible Dictionary

Baʿal (Biblical Hebrew בעל, pronounced [ˈbaʕal], usually spelled Baal in English) is a Northwest Semitic title and honorific meaning "master" or "lord. The Encyclopædia Biblica article Baal by W. Robertson Smith and George F. Moore

The 7970 times you see in English the word "lord" was translated from the word "adonay" (also notice the Jews always used in the plural form). Because the Jewish leaders changed by replacing it with a pagan word "adonay" they lied and change words as well:

There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. Her priests have violated my Law, and have profaned mine Holy Things: they have put no difference between the Holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from MY Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith YAHWEH ELOHIM, when YAHWEH hath not spoken. Eze 22:25-28

The singular form is Adoni ("lord"). This was used by the Phoenicians for the pagan god Tammuz and is the origin of the Greek name Adonis. Adonai - Theopedia, an encyclopedia of Biblical Christianity

Christians remained related under the skin to the devotees of Adonis and Osiris, Dionysus and Mithras. Hugh Schonfield in Those Incredible Christians (1968, p. xii)

Marduk was one of the offspring of Ea. Marduk was also Bel or Lord. He is the equivalent of Mithras in Persian religion, and Christ in Christianity. His name is shortened from Amar-uduk, “the young steer of day,” suggesting he was the morning or rising sun, the sun god in his beneficient aspect. Many hymns were written to him. Just as Bel meant “lord,” and was used, like the Phoenician Baal. . .AskWhy! Books website on Christian and Jewish origins, history, faults, fallacies, and alternatives

The Levantine Adonis ("lord"), who was drawn into the Greek pantheon, was considered by Joseph Campbell among others to be another counterpart of Tammuz, son and consort. The Masks of God pp 39-40

And in all that I have said to you take heed. And make no mention of the name of other mighty ones, let it not be heard from your mouth. Ex 23:13

Paganism is a religious system that is based on the worship of fallen angels. Most of mankind was polytheistic. They worshipped many gods, such as the serpent, the dragon, and the sun, before Yahweh-Elohim gave the law to Moses and Israel, which began the period of monotheism, the belief in one God. In ignorance the people worshipped these idols and attributed to them all the spiritual qualities, such as Wisdom, Eternal Life, Savior, etc., which in reality belong to Yahweh and His Son. For this reason, Yahweh told Israel that He would not give His glory to graven idols (Isa. 42:8). Blavatsky, H.P (I did not change any names here)

Monotheism is characteristic of Atenism, Bahá'í Faith, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Ravidassia, Judaism, Sabianism, Sikhism and Zoroastrianism. http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/390101/monotheism

CELEBRANT: Blessed are all you holy ones, the saints, you who have done the will of God, and now rejoice in the reward of Eternal joy. Holy men and women who worshipped the All Holy One as Rama, Vishnu or the Lord Krishna, forest hermits, ascetics and wise ones whose lives were incarnations of the holy books the Vedas, Upanishads and Gita -ALL: All you Hindu saints; we praise you for holy are you. Episcopal Priest Praises Mohammed, Vishnu, Buddha, Confucius in Liturgy

You do not uplift the Name of YAHWEH your ELOHIM to naught (for no importance), for YAHWEH does not leave the one unpunished who brings HIS NAME to naught (for no importance). Ex 20:7 Scripture 98+ Version

Because that which may be known of ELOHIM is manifest in them; for ELOHIM hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of HIM(the FATHER) from the Creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even HIS Eternal Power and Divinity; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew ELOHIM, they glorified HIM not as ELOHIM, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the Uncorruptible ELOHIM into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore ELOHIM also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of ELOHIM into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the CREATOR, who is Blessed forever. Amen Rom 1:19-25

I saw that ELOHIM had especially guarded the Bible; yet when copies of it were few, learned men had in some instances changed the words, thinking that they were making it more plain, when in reality they were mystifying that which was plain, by causing it to lean to their established views, which were governed by tradition. But I saw that the Word of ELOHIM, as a whole, is a perfect chain, one portion linking into and explaining another. True seekers for truth need not err; for not only is the Word of ELOHIM plain and simple in declaring the way of life, but the Holy Spirit is given as a guide in understanding the way to life therein revealed. EW 220, 221

Those who allow prejudice to bar the mind against the reception of truth cannot receive the divine enlightenment. Yet, when a view of Scripture is presented, many do not ask, Is it true--in harmony with ELOHIM’S Word? but, By whom is it advocated? and unless it comes through the very channel that pleases them, they do not accept it. So thoroughly satisfied are they with their own ideas that they will not examine the Scripture evidence with a desire to learn, but refuse to be interested, merely because of their prejudices.

YAHWEH often works where we least expect HIM; HE surprises us by revealing HIS power through instruments of HIS own choice, while HE passes by the men to whom we have looked as those through whom light should come. ELOHIM desires us to receive the truth upon its own merits--because it is truth.

The Bible must not be interpreted to suit the ideas of men, however long they may have held these ideas to be true. We are not to accept the opinion of commentators as the voice of ELOHIM; they were erring mortals like ourselves. ELOHIM has given reasoning powers to us as well as to them. We should make the Bible its own expositor. TM 105, 106:pray:

Blessings and bless that the President will stay in office and the hurt by Sandy,

This is really odd; you quote a lot from "commentaries;" to "prove" your point. Unfortunately, when the rubber hits the road; "Elohim" is also translated to suit the ideas of men. Join the club and stop trying to fix somethin that isn't broken. I would offer the following caution to others reading at this forum:

Again it is very clear that you did not fully understand the meaning of words. Commentaries mean a series of comments, explanations, or annotations: a commentary on the Bible. Collins English Dictionary - Complete & Unabridged 10th Edition.

The material I used were New Unger’s Bible Dictionary, Encyclopædia Biblica Books, and website on Christian and Jewish origins. I hardly ever use commentaries because even ours namely the SDA Bible Commentaries is based on tradition and doctrines. What I provided to you is scholars who specialize in the field of Biblical Archeology, History, Linguistic, and Epigraphist and not ministers who degree and write comments on the Bible.

It is odd that she clearly stated "opinion of commentators" and she explain what they do which is they attempt to become expositors of the Bible.

Bible Commentary/Exegesis

Scholarly interpretation of religious texts, using linguistic, historical, and other methods. In Judaism and Christianity, it has been used extensively in the study of the Bible. Textual criticism tries to establish the accuracy of biblical texts. Philological criticism deals with grammar, vocabulary, and style in pursuit of faithful translation. Literary criticism classifies texts according to style and attempts to establish authorship, date, and audience. Tradition criticism seeks the sources of biblical materials and traces their development. Redaction criticism examines the way pieces of the tradition have been assembled into a literary composition by editors. Form criticism studies the way narratives are shaped by the cultures that produce them. Historical criticism looks at a text's historical context.Britannica Concise Encyclopedia

It is also odd that you cannot understand that the Scriptures you provided were translated into false pagan names. It is also odd that you only selected a portion of EGW instead of her complete thought:

Here is what you appeared clearly too over looked what she stated:

1. allow prejudice,

2. barring the mind against the reception of truth,

3. cannot receive the divine enlightenment,

4. when a view of Scripture is presented,

5. many do not ask, Is it true--in harmony with ELOHIM’S Word,

6. but, By whom is it advocated,

7. unless it comes through the very channel that pleases them, they do not accept it,

8. thoroughly satisfied are they with their own ideas,

9. will not examine the Scripture evidence with a desire to learn,

10. but refuse to be interested, merely because of their prejudices,

11. YAHWEH often works where we least expect HIM,

12. revealing HIS power through instruments of HIS own choice,

13. HE passes by the men to whom we have looked as those through whom light should come (some of the leaders),

14. to receive the truth upon its own merits,

15. because it is truth,

16. The Bible must not be interpreted to suit the ideas of men,

17. however long they may have held these ideas to be true,

18. ELOHIM has given reasoning powers to us as well as to them.TM 105, 106

All of the above you just overlooked also I provided Scriptures that prove the claim that YAHWEH'S NAME IS HOLY and should be respected with REVERANCE!

It is just beyond comprehension why you insist on using the intepretations of Jewish texts by non Jews. Are you of the opinion that they do not know their own language?? Are you saying that all 31 copies of the Dead Sea Scrolls, written in the Hebrew and Aramaeic and Greek are all wrong and only English speaking interpretors, who have "studied" Hebrew know the truth??

Isa 53:4
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

This is an excellent text to show why context of a given verse is so important in determining what person of the Godhead is being referred to by the name used therein.

Here, we see "Elohiym" is being used in the most original language we have available. It is actually Strong's H430.

While Elohiym is a masculine Hebrew noun, written in plural form; Elohiym actually does have both plural and singular uses in the Bible, and with that in mind we begin to see how context of a name for God is important and that the Bible writers were quite correct in the names they have used in the Bible we have today.

In this verse; Elohiym refers specifically to "God" the Father. And I will come back to that in a minute.

1/ In a plural sense, Elohiym refers to judges, rulers, or judges, with divine connections. (Exodus 21:6)

2/ It may even at times refer to pagan Gods (Exodus 18:11, Psalms 86:8 and many other OT passages.

3/ Elohiym also at times refers to angels. (Psalms 8:6, 97:7) In both of the passages where angels is the apparent meaning, it actually is translated so in the Septuagint. On the former, see Heb 2:7

4/ In the singular sense, Elohiym is used as a God or a Godess: (1 Sam 5:7, 2 Kings 18:24)

5/ As a man, in a position like God (Exodus 7:1)

6/ As God (Deut 7:9, Ezra 1:3, Isa 45:18, and many other OT passages. With this latter meaning

Elohim often comes with modifiers, such as

a) "righteous" (Psalms 7:10)
b) living (1 Sam 23:26)
c) holy (Josh 24:19)
d) true (2 Chron 15:3)

Elohiym usually takes a singular verb, so no implication of any plurality of the divine nature can be inferred just from the fact of this word being in plural form. This is where we must be careful to distinguish from context the true meaning/s of a given Bible word; for it is now evident that inaccuracies can occur if we limit it to just a word study, based on one word. While Elohiym is the most common Hebrew word translated as God; it is easy now to see that Bible translators certainly were not wrong in using the many names for God that we see in current Bible versions of our day.

The Bible never has to worry about quoting the latest, greatest professor, or scholar; nor does it need to worry about wrestling with semantics, by nature of the text itself; we see that the Bible deals with context and actual intentions of the Bible writers for a given Bible text. The theory of only calling God Elohiym is simply not Biblical.

For eg, because Jesus is God; I will use His name to illustrate how the name “Jesus” in the New Testament is exactly the same as the name “Joshua” in the Old Testament. In both cases, this name means “Jehovah, the Savior.” This is very fitting, since Jesus, the Son of God, would obviously have to have the same name as His Father. It’s a family name. As Jesus puts it: “...We are one...” (Jo.17:22).

Jesus, the Son of God is specifically identified throughout the Bible as Jehovah; and as we have just noted, God the Father has the same name as His Son: Clearly, the name “Jehovah,” is not just limited to “God the Father,” in the Bible. One has to read each verse in proper, intended context to see what Person the name of “Jehovah” in a given verse would be referring to; and why the Bible writers used the name they did; and it is the same with "Elohim." Elohiym would indicate any of the Three members of the Godhead, depending upon the context.

Therefore, we can also demonstrate that the many different names God has in Scripture are not some secret plot by satan; but rather, they describe some of the character attributes of Elohiym, such as God, (the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit).

One of my favorite names for "God" is "Jehovah-Jireh;" meaning "the Lord shall provide." Having once lived on the streets I can appreciate the temporal aspects of this name, and the provision implicated, but on a more eternal note; if you knew of my past; you would agree that I am the "Chief of sinners;" and as such, the Lord shall provide, also indicates the possibility of my salvation.

(as I mentioned above; the use of Elohiym in Isa 53:4 refers to God the Father, and I will come back to that fact in the next post).
