  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Name a doctrine that you used to believe in but dont anymore.

For once we agree. I personally consider his theology to be "angry theology" in that it seems rooted in his own personal anger and thus it draws folks who see God and their faith through their own bitterness, and I find myself even wondering if maybe he was some sort of sadist.

Hey, better late than never, I say.


There was probably a lot of "angry theology" in those days, from both sides, considering the climate of spiritual turmoil and confict and there very well may have been some sadism at Calvin's end. However, from my own personal experience with the Calvinists whom I've personally debated (and I'm not referring to anybody on this forum, as I've basically skirted the issue most of my time here due to my time restrictions), I definitely believe that there is a major underlying element of PRIDE involved. IOW, God chose me, but He didn't choose you. Anyhow, I personally believe that Calvinism has done at least as much (and possibly more) damage to professing Christianity as (than) any other "ism" has. Quite frankly, how anybody could believe his heresies is an absolute mystery to me...and I've heard all of the alleged "apologetics" that there are out there in his attempted defense.

John Calvin toasted Michael Servetus! And for visiting his home church! It would be something if such a man who devoted his entire life to the reading of God's word now sits in hell for shedding the innocent blood!

Calvin certainly did "toast" him. Was that a reflection of the gospel of Christ? Not even close.

What are you getting at? If you were trying to make a point, I would say you have become guilty of pulling the Servetus Card, as it were.

If I existed in Europe during the time of John Calvin I would have been labeled 'Ana-Baptist' and sent to my own stake. May the blood of the martyrs speak!

At least he did not aid in pointing multitudes to Hell like Binney Hinn has done preaching a false Gospel!

On what basis do you make the bold claim that John Calvin was a heretic? I do hope you understand what Orthodoxy means, and have an idea of the historical theology traced in John Gill's book "The Cause of God and Truth".
