  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mysteries in Revelation: what I don't understand.

Write the things which thou hast seen...are...which shall be hereafter;
Rev.
1:20

....I will shew thee things which shall be hereafter.
4:1
...seventh angel..sound, the mystery of God should be finished...
10:7

...eat the little book...
10:9
...prophesy again...
10:11

Rev. 17:1
And there came unto me one of the seven angels...
22:6
And he said unto me, These sayings...which must shortly be done.
...this book...
22:9
...Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book...
...add unto him the plagues...written in this book. Rev. 22:18

The plagues spoken of are not the trumpet plagues, as those end with the 7th trumpet.

7th trumpet - ends the mystery of God. /plagues
This "book" -ends a different set of plagues. /vials/plagues that are added

For the trumpet times, the seven angels are in heaven for most of them.
In Rev. 16-22, the vials are poured by the seven angels in the earth area, and one of them speaks to John and shows him things.

And all of this means.... ? Who are you even talking to?

I'm talking to anyone that thinks Rev. is just prophecy for the early church. I'm also talking to anyone that wants to understand how Rev. is divided up into sealed parts, and non-sealed parts (things for John's day). The book of Rev. has sections of it that to understand it, you have to find the hidden links.

Hidden links
Rev.
seven angels .......the seven angels

/So Rev. 15:1 comes ahead of Rev. 8:2 somehow.
We have discovered one of the hidden links.

Rev. 7:2
...another angel ascending from the east...

/Other angels were seen doing it ahead of this one. All of these came from the east angels have the job of sealing the tribes.

Rev. 7:1 shows four angels standing and mentions nothing as to any ways that they have to hurt things -such as by using plagues. But when the last from the east angel speaks to them, he notes how they can hurt the earth and the sea, then later added the trees. This shows that as the sealing angels have been coming from the east, they have been giving away their ways of hurting the earth, sea and the trees. The final sealing angel must be the first trumpet angel, as when he sounds -1/3 of the trees get burned.
Angels in heaven can't be harming stuff on the earth. The four angels will do the damage as the trumpets sound in heaven.

We now have another hidden key.
The earth, sea and trees ways to hurt of the four angels were given to them by the angels that came from the east.
Rev. 8 ends showing that the last three trumpets are against the earth inhabitants. (trumpets - hurt earth, sea, trees)
There is only one tree plague, and the second trumpet harms the sea inhabitants.

Another hidden link is the end of Rev. 11.
John did not next see chapter 12.

I think we need to watch for when John starts and ends visions. He begins new visions (usually) by noting them as "after".

So Rev. 4:1 began a new vision, and so did Rev 7:1.
These are when a new proper sequence of events should unfold.
The middle of Rev. was jumbled, made with hidden links, as it was not to occur in the days of the early church. Daniel too, had to seal his sayings as at the end they would be understood.

I don't understand most of what you write because you just cryptically insert verses and then a few words without really writing sentences, or explaining yourself. It's just plain bad writing. It does not share what you are saying, let alone why you are saying it, why it is important to you, what difference it makes.

About your claims. What hidden links? Slow down and try and explain why you think something was 'hidden'?

I think your first mistake is looking for a chronology. Revelation has no timetables. It's a waltz, not a march. It's like watching the sports; there are dozens of cameras from different angles, and they'll slow down and rewind an important event, and then look at it from a bunch of different angles. So we have the final battle and judgement repeated again and again from the sidelines, from right up in the front row, from a birds eye view. That's why it's like sports. Or if you prefer, a waltz. It just goes around and around the same events.

And the events themselves are described in biblical symbols.

There's nothing hidden, revelation is the REVELATION! It's about Revealing the mysteries sealed up in Daniel's scroll, that our Lord and Saviour Jesus IS the Christ, has defeated sin and death, has created a new kingdom (ours, the church), and reigns supreme from Heaven, and that the message has gone out into all nations and all continents. The Kingdom of God is no longer about National Israel and her boundaries, it is ALL about our gospel of the crucified and risen God-man!

That's the 'mystery' of the Old Testament that Paul also explains in the gospel. John explains it as the mystery sealed up by Daniel but answered by the gospel itself!

Meanwhile, we're stuck here on earth going through the "last days" (which Peter explains started at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out).

In other words, Revelation is symbolic picture language describing how the gospel works and the church should behave while suffering and being persecuted. That's it. There's NO timetable, NO secrets, NO hidden patterns to decode, etc. It's (mostly) easy to understand gospel images. Some images might be a bit difficult, but even they have generalisations that can be drawn up.

People just need to realise that John was talking both to his generation and to all of us. Yes, the Roman persecution of the early church was about to start 'soon' and the 'time was near'. But no, he was not primarily interested in the Roman persecution. It was all symbolism of what happens whenever and where-ever Christians are persecuted. And we have repeated descriptions of man made and natural disasters, and a godly reaction to them, and Christ's final return on judgement day.

If find the idea that it is all a timetable about our generation quite self-indulgent, maybe even vain? It's just silly. John, like all the other gospel authors, wrote to Christians in all ages, for all to benefit from across all time.
