  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all,
I am new to this posting board and thought that before I begin to post, which will be a lot, I thought I should give you my testimony, if that is alright, if not let me know and I will erase this post haste.
To begin with, I had the usual, or maybe quite unusual childhood.
My father and mother did not get along to say the least. My father had some problems with alcohol and did many sinful things. For example I remember being a kid and waking up in the middle of the night to screams. I ran into my sisters room to find my father on top of my mother on sisters bed with the telephone cord wrapped around my mothers neck, I didnt now if my mother was going to be killed. Growing up there were many similar experiences such as these that unfortunately have shaped who I am.
After the divorce of my parents I lived with my mother who was very emotionally, verbally, and physically abusive to my sister and I.
Somehow I made it through those experiences to finally make it too college.
College turned out to be a very tumultous experience for me. I began to drink, do all kinds of drugs and eventually was kicked out a very prestigous university and program.
I ended up in dead end jobs and my life spiraled down and out of control very quickly, I attempted suicide twice, which were both cries for help, well actually the first was a cry for help, the second I actually thought I was going to die, luckily my sister came home in time to stop me, and I ended up in a psychiatric hospital.
At the hospital, and actually beforehand I had been spiritually curious.
So at the hospital a minister who I was friends with came to visit with me and talked with me on the phone.
My so called friends, who I did drugs with never visited me in the hospital once, some friends they turned out to be...
Stay tuned as I pick up the story in 2and1/2hours...

At the hospital the pastor asked if I believed Christ to be the Son of God, and I replied "Yes", and do you believe that he died on the cross for your sins? "Yes"
That day I began to realize that I am a sinner that fell far short of being able to please God.
From that day forward my life has been changed.
I began to no longer use drugs. I didnt want to go out to bars anymore. I also began apologizing to people for ways that I hurt them.
It was a very lonely time for quite a while for me afterthat. But during that time I read more of the Bible than I ever did or have read since. I read of the New Testament and most of the Old Testament.
I decided to go back to school. I wanted to graduate with honors.
While at school I met a beautiful older woman who later turned out to be my wife. I did end up graduating, with a 4.0 In my former life I had a 2.0 with a number of D's and F's.
Even with this horrific past class record, I decided that I wanted to take the mcat and apply to medical school.
I took the mcat and did pretty well, a 29.
During this time I proposed to my wife, in beautiful Arizona.
Trying to get into medical school was a very difficult process. It was very difficult to try to explain why I did so poorly yet than did so well.
I was only asked during one interview, and I did tell the interviewers it had to do with my belief in Jesus Christ.
After one round of rejections from 23 medical schools I decided to go back to school and take more courses. With the grace of God I did well in the those courses, reapplied, and am now a medical student.
During the application time, my wife and I have had two beautiful boys.
I am also one of the top students at my medical school.
My life has been so blessed ever since I accepted Jesus into my life. A beautiful wife, two beautiful sons, a career that I will definitely enjoy. And I know that the Lord has much more in store for my life.
The one thing that I have been praying for is that my family and I will become a lot more involved in our local church activities.

One more thing to add to the great things that the Lord has done for me, my father is no longer and alcoholic, he had been one for as long as I knew him, it is so great to see him doing so well.

Please pray for me and my family, and thank God for his greatness!
Peace,
T
