  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok, i wasn't going to come along here tonight, but after having watched an hour and a half of Catholic Slur on Brit TV : 'Flesh and the Devil', i feel the need to focus on something worthy of my attention.

Today my son, who is eight went to school with a parcel. In it was the Bible he received at Christmas, his rosary and a booklet explaining the mysteries and prayers to be prayed on it, a prayer card: splinters of the cross, a crucifix, a Catholic newspaper and a statue of the Divine mercy.

Considering that my son gets picked on frequently, i was worried that his enthusiasm for doing his 'show and tell' with all his much loved devotional items, would lead to him coming out of school with bruises!

My son was so proud when he told me later about how he stood up in front of the whole class and explained to everyone why we pray the rosary, how we use holy water, what is meant by the Divine Mercy, how we pray to Mary, not worship her.... I love my children...God is doing wonderful work within my family. My son, who is not even received into the Catholic Faith yet, is an apologist amongst his fellow 8 year olds!

My son had come home yesterday and told me that his teacher had informed the class that she did not believe in God, so i was a little concerned that she would in some way resent my son's enthusiasm for Jesus -but i was called to collect my son from school, before lunch time today ( he had had an asthma attack at school) and his teacher thanked me for allowing my son to take everything in.

oh and i must share this, this really warms my heart... only last week my daughter began to kneel at Mass for the very first time.

I just wanted to share this wonderul time with you. Mums are so soppy aren't they!

Thank you so much for this post. It brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful example you are setting for your children - they know the love of Christ because of you.

God Bless
Karla, your kind words...i don't deserve them. The glory is God's. I just wanted to post this because there are days that are total gem's...days when the children's squabbling and arguments pale into insignificance, this has been one of those day's when i realize that it is indeed possible to appreciate the concept of heavenly love.

Our home is loud and yet ordinary, messy and rugged, we are affectionate and passionate and argumentative and sometimes even volatile in our outbursts...but we love so deeply, and every now and then, the Lord magnifies some aspect of our life together, that i have overlooked ~ this time, it was to watch from the sidelines as my son's love of Jesus became startlingly evident to me. ( though he still gets distracted at Mass~ at least he doesn't fake his death and lie stiff as a board across the pew, anymore_ having said that, that was when we were in the protestant church  ) I pray that his love for the Lord will continue.

Thankyou so much for posting Karla, i really appreciate your kind comments.

Wow ConGrads Sis! Sounds your son is gonna be a awesome Catholic.

Has he been baptized yet, like in another church? Also when is he gonna to get confession, communion and confirmation? :)
Thankyou CatholicSoldier! I truly hope that he does become the most awesome Catholic. My son and daughter were baptised in the C of E ( Anglican) church 4 years ago. We have, however, been drawn to the Catholic faith over the last 2 years and it reaches it's culmination at Easter Vigil when we will all be received into the Catholic Faith, as a family! All on the same night, i can hardly wait. Both my children will receive first communion at that time.

cindy~ thank you so much.

It is a sad day when children are bound by the 'laws' of education to not speak about their faith in God. :sigh:

thank you for the prayer

That's so great. School isn't always a faith-friendly environment, and it's great he has the courage to do that!
I agree.

Hopefully he will be as on fire for God and as knowledgeble and committed to our faith as you are, when he is older. :)
