• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The original post is kind of old now, and I'm not sure if you still read or post here, but I'll go ahead and add my $0.02 anyway.

My situation is almost exactly the same as yours. My father sexually abused me, and I haven't seen him for about 12 years now. I've forgiven him - not because Jesus told me to or anything, but rather because the pain and the anger would have destroyed me completely by now - but I want nothing to do with him. Lately the PTSD's been getting really bad, and if he tried to contact me, it would shake my world to the core.

Honestly, you really should speak to a therapist about this situation. I think it goes without saying that ANY victim of rape or sexual abuse should seek professional (NOT pastoral) help if he or she hasn't already. That's not an insult - it's one of the best pieces of advice I've ever been given, actually.

:hug:s all around. As an atheist I won't offer any prayers, but I come equipped with a shoulder to lean on if need be.

I too am a survivor. I've had many people tell me I'm amazing and powerful after hearing my testimony. And to them I have said "do not give me praise of any kind for it is not I that was strong enough to overcome". Give praise to God and our Savior Jesus Christ for they are the strength and glory, the love and compassion, the truth and the guidance that helped me through such terrible times. As sure as I was raped by my biological father I was raised up and given the understanding of forgiveness by our heavenly Father and Christ. I want to ask you something very important if I may. Have you ever confronted him directly for what he did to you? It can be in person, through a phone call or by email. You know, you have every right in the world to do so and he is obligated by his own conscience to reply. If you are interested in taking this approach and would like a true survivor to help you with it I tell you now...I am here to help. Do not assume for one second that this will be easy. It takes courage and commitment that comes as promised from above. Don't try to calculate the outcome. What you must do is for You! He must deal with his own demons. You have the right to make him face it. Ahhh...there I go...rambling as I do so often. It is such a deep and loving desire that I reach out to those who share these atrocities...these evils that have been visited upon us. Please make sure you protect yourself by not trying to exact revenge. That is the right of the Most Holy. I am here for you and I love you as we are all of the family of God. I promise to help in whatever way I possibly can. I pray God brings you peace and comfort in the name of our brother, The Only Begotten Son of God...Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
