Now I am really worried that the SDA church is a cult because it behaves exclusively, similar to the roman catholic church, JWs and Mormons.

My question is,

why? is the adventist church evangelical?

If you think that Baptists or Catholics would approve of "your neighbor Sid baptizing you as long as he is a Christian" - and you have your own "doctrine" that this is not in fact something that should be done by a pastor or ordained ministry - then you have more "research" to do.

That is not how evangelicals or Catholics or ... do this. So simply throwing the SDA denomination under a bus because the Bible only endorses baptism by ordained ministers of the Gospel - and Baptists and Catholics do the same... then you are using a rule that would trash all of Christianity.

No evangelical church allows you to just go get baptized "by cousin Sid" -- someone who is an ordained pastor of some sort is the basic requirement - the book of Acts demonstrates this.

SDAs believe that a person is "saved" when they accept Christ as Savior - long BEFORE they are baptized (see Romans 10) so baptism is "joining the body of Christ" as well as a public confession of full surrender to Christ and acceptance of the Gospel.

SDAs therefore believe in "full disclosure" before baptism as well as encouraging each person to say the sinners prayer and be saved ASAP - long before baptism. Full disclosure includes telling the person everything that we believe so that there is no 'hey wait a minute - I joined your church and then later I found out you believe this-x-y-and-z teaching!! what is up with that?"

That simply does not happen.

By contrast some other denominations believe in sacramental holy waters where the person is not really saved until the water of baptism touches them. For that sort of doctrine - one would need to be baptized the moment they accept Christ. But SDAs do not believe that sort of doctrine -- rather we believe Romans 10 and 1 Peter 3, where it is the confession and the "appeal to God for a clean conscience" and not the magic touch of the water - that results in the saving transaction between the lost soul and Christ.
