  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Sounds to me like someone is running on reverse psychology.

Perhaps.
It is a well known phenomenon that people often misbehave when specifically instructed not to - especially true in children. Possibly just drawing attention to something is enough to initiate this, or the action is a deliberate attempt to draw attention to he who misbehaves.
Childish really, I know.
But often fun.
But I will again state, for the record, that I afforded the passage more respect than I normally do to scripture by my use of capitalisation.
So sometimes it works both ways!
Here's the OP again:Highlight the insistence in red, please.
Ok, with all due respect.....
God led his chosen people out of a comfortable life of slavery in Egypt and tested them with the threat of hunger, thirst and demanded their obedience thus.
They wern't really lost in the middle of nowhere because Moses' father-in-law paid a visit.
And as further proof of God's loving nature and all-powerful properties, he decided to suspend some physical laws so that the people would not need new clothes.

Sorry, AV -- can't answer your challenge while respecting your passage. Might I ask why you mentioned (not that I didn't say insisted) that particular condition?

Sorry, AV -- can't answer your challenge while respecting your passage.
That's because "I don't know" isn't in you hot shots' vocabularies --- unless, of course, it has something to do with God or His Word, then, all of a sudden, you guys become top-notch "experts".

You guys can't even tell me who wrote Matthew, when his name is shouted at the top of the page.

(Yes "shouted" --- all caps is considered "shouting".)

It's interesting that you guys are so quick to say God didn't do this and God didn't do that, but when I ask for a little respect from one short passage of Scripture, you scratch a hole in your head, then act [emphasis on "act"] apologetic because you can't "respect" the passage.

You guys are truly not a microcosm of the real world --- you can't be --- I refuse to believe it.

Wrong as usual, AV.

Any reason you chose to ignore my question -- besides the fact that you don't know?

You guys can't even tell me who wrote Matthew, when his name is shouted at the top of the page.

Matthew who? The man's as real as Diedrich Knickerbocker.

(Yes "shouted" --- all caps is considered "shouting".)

It's not in all caps at the top of the page in my KJV.

It's interesting that you guys are so quick to say God didn't do this and God didn't do that, but when I ask for a little respect from one short passage of Scripture, you scratch a hole in your head, then act [emphasis on "act"] apologetic because you can't "respect" the passage.

I never pretended to worship the passage. Why should I?

Becuase you demand it?

You guys are truly not a microcosm of the real world --- you can't be --- I refuse to believe it.

Perhaps if you spent more time in the real world, you would find it easier to believe.

And why -- besides self-promotion -- are you discussing our preceived inferiority?

Fundie Pride again?

I don't think I understand what you mean by 'respect the passage'. Could you please elaborate on what this means, specifically?
Sure --- glad you asked.

In many of my challenges, they try and act like I'm not giving enough information, and they even change the wording around to fit how they want to answer it, then throw it back at me.

Here's a classic example.

Look at the very first reply --- I'd have to do it in first --- when I clearly stated that is exactly what I did.

My Taj Mahal Challenge became a train wreck of people "answering" that should have just kept quiet.

I'm just asking for the OP to be answered without changing the wording around or adding anything to it.

ETA: When I issue a "challenge" --- I visualize that it is the last sheet on a test --- for extra credit.

If my students were to come up to my desk and ask for further clarification, I would simply tell them to either answer it as it is written, or forego the extra credit points.

The thing is, AV, you are not our teacher. You do not have a monopoly on truth, although you probably think you do. Your challenges are obviously looking for a specific answer that serves to prove your point. Most of the time, we immediately see what you're getting at. The real challenge is in making you see why your little question is irrelevant, presumptuous, sophistic, and/or dishonest. Every once in a while you'll have a legitimate question, but even then I haven't seen you accept the answer. You're not looking for answers. You're looking for sheep.

It's not that you don't give enough information, AV -- it's that you saddle it with wrong information.

How about subtracting?

If my students were to come up to my desk and ask for further clarification, I would simply tell them to either answer it as it is written, or forego the extra credit points.

This is why you're not a teacher, AV -- you can't hold your students accountable for the mistakes you make on a test.

Incidentally, AV, your "challenge" has given me inspiration for a challenge of my own -- QV PLEASE

I've kept the wording as identical as I could -- did a pretty good job if I do say so myself.

Perhaps you could help us out by answering my challenge in the same way you'd like us to answer yours?

Modeling behavior is a great teaching technique -- plus there's the Golden Rule to think about.
