And don't even get me started on how many times my good-looking wife was hit on.

I hear you Free! I have come close to losing my religion for a few minutes and downloading some righteous indignation on a few of these guys. I can only imagine how bad it would be if my wife DIDN"T wear her ring.

But I guess that is the cross we must bear for having wives who are babes! ;)

Joe Crews in some of his arguments against wedding rings even made note of the anti-jewelry teachings of other Christian churches at the time. Of course, he condemned them as apostate for abandoning those teachings. :sigh:

Yep, that was classic Crews. Condemn, judge and finger-point, the keystones of his ministry.

Trads always ask us why we choose to stay in a denomination where we have so many issues. I wonder if they ever thought of asking that question about Crews?

Personally, I believe the man was one step away from leaving the mainline church for an independent ministry. Most likely the only thing that held him in was EGW's foreboding admonishments against those who take that path.

Funny how people like Crews can get around such statements by spouting the same divisive rhetoric against the GC and the mainline body as independent ministries, just short of actually condemning the church as Babylon, and still think they are in line with her counsel. They may not verbally say it, but mentally they consider the mainline church to be in apostasy and pretty much Babylon or well on her way to it. The attitude and spirit of Shepherd's Rod is in many Trads, they just haven't officially and physically removed themselves from membership. Only the words of the prophetess keeps them from doing so, or they would be gone before you could say 'the Standish brothers'.

I always find it fascinating the exegetical, hermeneutical, mental and literary gymnastics that go into upholding the God of the Bible who gave specific instructions to elaborately decorate the priests gaments in jewels and colorful embroidered thread as being the same Adventist God who abhors and despises jewelry and decoration.

So much for the fabulous glamour of Solomons temple. Not to mention the breath-taking jewel and precious stone encrusted beauty of the ornate gates of the New Jerusalem which would make any professional jeweler gasp with delight.

Must have been Scriptural typos I guess.

Of course, knowing that there is nothing at all wrong with wedding rings does not give a person the freedom to leave all common sense behind. Going into monstrous debt in order to purchase an engagement ring, or dedicating a year's wages to paying off a ring is probably not the smartest thing to do if you cannot afford it.

Simpler is better IMO. My wife has a narrow, slender band with a small stone. Very tiny and not at all gaudy.

Night,

While I personally don't find a ring necessary. I do not fault those who choose to wear one.

I agree with your point of going into debt over buying one though, and I think many should take this advice to heart.

How does your post make any sense at all? I know you are able to read, please make use of that skill.

JM

I was talking about wearing rings inside of the church. Your arguments was how the outside world would tempt the married people w/o wearing wedding rings.

You didn't understand my original post and the subsequent post.

Should people who wear wedding bands take them off when they go to church then? ;)

The church IS all the believers on the face of the globe. It's not the buildings constructed with various materials by different denominations. There is nothing 'holy' about churches except that when Christians enter them they have Holy God living IN them. But the same would be true no matter where they went, including the grocery store. Even where two or three are gathered. In fact, that's often the best place to 'play church'. The fellowship beats the 'lights and show' performed at many buildings called 'church' hands down, any day of the week (pun intended).:)
