  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dear Aaron=Aggie: You mean, since I was baptised a "Baptist" in the name of the Trinity, I am already "okay" in the eyes of the Church???? (mouth hanging open)....this is not what is taught about Catholicism in Protestantism. We are taught that we are seen and recognized as "apostates"....I belive in the Trinity wholeheartedly???? Are you saying that Catholicism does not see us as "blank apostate"??? If you are saying that, I have been lied to by Protestantism and that makes me angry! :)
Hi Suzannah . .

No, the Catholic Church does not view those formally outside it as apostate simply because they are formally outside it. .

To be apostate, you first have to be formally a Catholic, and then you have to apostasize . . you were never Catholic, you never did anything to be an apostate. :)

The Catholic Church recognizes that there are Christians who, while not formally joined to the Church, are nevertheless believers and part of the Church. :)

Does this help? Please try to not be angry . .there are so many things that are wrongly believed about Catholicism .. I know that whe I understood I had been lied to about the Reformation I was very angry .. that anger lasted for some time . .but it is not good to hold on to. . .

Peace in Him!

Therese: Alright, I will try very hard to not be angry. You are right, that it is not good to hold onto that. You are also right that "wrong belief" does not equal "right". I am just reacting to what I have read which is very, very new to me. :) In fact, it all makes me very happy in the end, to know that I am indeed still "joined" to my brothers and sisters. :)

I wish the thing would work "the other way" 'round... :(
Protestants, as a whole, and speaking from personal experience, would not "recognize" the Christianity and "Christian-ness" if I may put it that way, of a Catholic believer. :( That makes me sad because, on a personal level, as much as that is worth, I surely always have! :) Your superior faith and expression of it, humbles me!
:)

Suzannah maybe this will help in technical terms I am an apostate because I was baptized Catholic then batized Baptist. Although I was never taught anything about Catholicism because my Mother then turned JW when I was still very wrong. I too am very angry about the misconceptions I was taught about the Church by both my PRE brethren and the JWs it was very harmful to me and led me astray fo a long time. But one must forgive. Especially since most of them are under the same preconcieved misconceptions and do not know.

Debi,
Thank you for sharing that about JW. That has clearly shown itslef in your posts and now understand why!!!!
Bad stuff and very hard to release the mind from. I had a lot to pray over and to ask Him very Humbly to remove from me so as not to be a stumbling block to His presence anymore.

Sorry for the delay my computer died and I lost my first post.

The Catholic Church believes in One Baptism for the Forgiveness of Sins So all who have been baptized with water in the Name of the Father , the Son , and the Holy Spirit, are members of the Body of Christ no matter where this is preformed. Since the Catholic Church is the Church of Christ all those who a member of the Body of Christ are a member of the Church. The Church does not rebaptism those who have already been baptized. (Except in those few cases Proof or witness of proper age can be found)

There have been times when the church must declare individuals and their teachings to be no longer part of the Church. This serves as a protection for the rest of the faithful and hopefully a wake up call for those individuals. Such declarations were made in the case of the orginal reformers but they apply only to those individuals and their teachings not to any one else. The Church does not hold those who have not been taught the Fullness of the Lord’s Truth responsible for that. The Church strives to correct those errors and bring all of Christ’s faithful back into the fullness of his truth.

I must also point out that baptism is just the first step. Just as every child born and raised in the Catholic Faith must be educated in the Faith so must each Adult the returns Home to the Church. Thus the need for RCIA before one can receive the rest of the sacraments of the Church.

Hopefully this helps if not I request the help of more knowledge people to help me explain it.
