  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I had a little project about mutating programs awhile ago. Maybe a year or so. I got a document up at http://www.cljy.com/~billy/MutatingProgram.htm
I'd like to hear some opinions on it, response...ya know, just ...stuff... ;)

I find that this was a pretty good project, it's given me a lot of information, including spiritually. Gives an interesting look on things...It also gives me some cold hard proof of why evolution doesn't work ;). Anyway, so go read the article already! :p

fascinating.

how ever in order to realistically approach a simulation on evolution, you need to have other driving forces that determine which programs survive and which do not. you need some definition of 'strength' or 'fitness', some instinct of self preservation etc.

what would be really interesting is if you could create a self-modifying program that mutated but did the exact same behaviour. eg. replace opcodes only with functionally equivalent ones

heh, trying to trick me 'eh? I know what that it is. Its a program that blackhat hackers want so they can re-release viruses but not have those rewritten virsuses detected as the old ones.

Anyway, they do have a definition of 'strength'. The ones that could reproduce faster and make more copies were stronger, because when it came time to restart the computer and start the last 800 or so programs in the folder the ones that reproduced the most would have the most in that 800 program frame.

I'm not an evolutionist, BTW. I'm just interested in this kind of stuff. ;)
