  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My beloved cat, Cat (real original name, eh? ), has a huge sore on her back. It's probably four inches in diameter...and she licks and scratches it so it bleeds even. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem before, or if you happen to know what it could be? I'm not too scared about it (no reason to freak out yet), but it's still disheartening to see my kitty like this. Thanks for reading, even if you don't know!

Hmmm, sorry your cat is having problems. I would definitely take her to the vet before you do anything but my Mom's Siamese had an infection (we think it was caused by a bite) on his stomach where his stomach was all swollen up because of the infection and my Mom called the vet and the vet told her to give him half of an amoxicillin pill in his food every day. Actually, I can't remember exactly how much or how often we was supposed to give it to him so please don't follow what I'm saying my Mom did because too much medicine could hurt your cat. But after about a week, the infection was completely gone. But I'd definitely take your cat to the vet. There may be other problems that you don't know about. I hope you can get your cat feeling better soon.

You need to get your cat to the vet. There are many things it could be, some fatal some not. I would never take a chance that this could be nothing. If this is a sore that's 4 inches in diameter, that's a lot to worry about. It could be something caused by FeLV, cancer, bacterial infection, viral infection etc. The licking and scratching she is doing is telling you that it's bothering her and if she's doing it till it bleeds, that's leaving her open to massive infection that could seriously hurt her or kill her. I don't mean to worry you or anything, but she needs a vet.

I'm not sure about cats exactly, I'm allergic, but my dog has problems sometimes in which she licks or rubs so much that soemtimes she causes sores on herself. I actually believe hers are allergy related though because it only happens when she eats something other than dog food. She sneezes and then starts rubbing her eyes usually. Its sad, so I can sympathize with you and your kitty. Hopefully your vet will be able to help you out.

Thanks so much...we've been talking about taking her to the vet, so it's good to know that it is a good idea. We didn't want to jump the gun. Thanks again!
Believe me, when in doubt, it's always best to take her to the vet. Or at the very least call the vet and tell him what's going on. He'll then be able to tell you whether he needs to see her or not.

Well friends, I took my sweet Kitty to the vet...and he gave her a shot and told us to come back in a week. It's wonderful because she's so content and isn't scratching anymore. It's SO adorable because he told us to put a baby shirt on her...so my mom and I went shopping! It was so fun and she looks SO adorable! Once I hit my 100 posts, I may be tempted to post the pictures I took of it...you all may get a good kick out of it! Thanks for everyone's encouragement to get my Kitty to the vet!!! I appreciate it!

Well, when we went the entire staff was getting a computer lesson, so they were technically closed for the day. BUT, they were so nice and took us in anyways! I guess they thought it was serious enough. He didn't have a lot of time to look at her, so he gave her a short and longlast shot of Cortozone. Thankfully, she hasn't scratched since and we have to take her back in a week. So, no...there wasn't a whole lot said, but the entire situation was exactly what we had prayed for...quick and easy. Thanks all!!!

My cat had a simular problem. My parents always let him outside, and I really don't like him out there. There's been this really mean black cat that harasses and beats up on other neighborhood cats. There's been more than a few times where he chased my cat up the tree in our back yard.

I guess they had gotten in a fight, and he had huge lumps all over him. I insisted on taking him to the vet, but my parents didn't want to because it would be too expensive. (Don't let the cat out then!!!)

I ended up finding information on how to treat it online. After awhile, the puss-filled bumps explode, and you have to clean them with peroxide every few hours to keep them from becoming infected. I did that and he healed pretty quickly. He still has a lump on his tail. As soon as I have enough money, I plan on taking him to the vet and have that fixed.

I'd really suggest taking an animal to the vet in such a case. It's just that my parents were careless and I didn't have a job at the time so I couldn't afford it myself.

I'm glad your kitty is doing better though! =)
