My poor camera :(

Well, my sweet angels got hold of my camera and were trying to take pictures like Mommy. Needless to say, my poor camera is broken. The film door is broken off...the hinge is still in place, but the plastic is snapped. Can anyone give me an estimate on what it might cost to have it fixed? It's a Pentax ZX-10, if that helps.

i think your camera must have come with a list of pentax authorized repair centres. Give them a call hold your breath! Unless it's cheap..then all's good

It won't be cheap. It seem custumary for the repair station charge you a bench fee before they even start. In the end you might be better off getting a new camera. The real question is what else is broken?

Depending on how far from the hinge it broke and whether it snapped when it broke or bent first and then snapped, you could try superglue. If it snapped off clean, glue the two pieces on the edges wait untill it set and then put a layer on top of the door and cover it with a piece of thin material (t-shirt or thinner) cut to the same shape but wider than where you bonded it together. Saturate the material a second time. You can then strengthen it even more by putting Bicarb of soda on top of the wet glue. It wont look nice but will allow you to see if the rest works and are saveable.

If only the little pieces of the hinge is there, do the same but skip the material part(obviously and after glueing the hinges put drops of superglue on the cracks.Then drop some Bicarb powder on the glue. It will harden immediately into a rock hard lump, keeping the part together and strengthening them. Just make sure where you drop the blue and bicarb isn't going to prevent the door from shutting.
