  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Matthew 12:1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

I see no relation to that with respect to what I stated.

Perhaps you should rephrase your question to say: Name one law of physics that the bible can't violate.:)

Name one law of physics God can't violate.
Jesus came to establish the law. Every miracle I have ever seen was a restoration to God plan and purpose.

Matthew 5:17-18 (NKJV) "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

If God can violate any and all laws of physics then you would have to remove all arguments about fine-tuning of the universe. All of the 'fine tuning' arguments would necessarily disappear as there is no more requirement for any of them in your scenario.

Anyway, AV, if you are suggesting that God can violate any known law of physics, please provide an example of this.
Matthew 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

lol, I know, but it amuses me to see how he explains away things.

He should get a job writing for television. he'd be able to come up with ways to explain away any inconsistencies...

"In episode 5, they call Dr Smith 'Harry", but in episode 7 we see a certificate on the wall which clearly states his name is John! How do you explain this?"

"Quick! Get AV!"

1st law of thermodynamics? An example being: Since God is omnipotent and thus can access all the energy required for anything he wishes to do then; "can god make a stone so heavy that he cannot lift it"?

What do you think creatio ex nihilo is?
The First Law of Thermodynamics makes it plain that the amount of mass/energy in the universe stays the same.

The Creation week started out with the amount of mass/energy at zero, then was raised to its current level over a period of six days.

If God has unlimited energy as an omnipotent entity he cannot break the 1st law. Since he cannot break the first law then he cannot be omnipotent and thus is a lesser deity. He simply cannot violate the first law by building a stone so heavy that he cannot lift it. This will require him to build something that will require he expend more energy than he has in order to lift the stone. Now since God has unlimited energy then the 1st law stands inviolable even to one such as God!

Hehe, even gods must abide to the laws of physics!

In that case, He would be self-limiting for the period of time that He couldn't lift this rock.

Think about it.

Gravity is Gm[sub]1[/sub]m[sub]2[/sub]/r[sup]2[/sup].

What would be m[sub]2[/sub] in this example?

God would have to violate the 1st Law of Thermodynamics and create a second mass -- a second mass that is even more massive than the rock He can't lift.

Assuming He does that, then He would be going out of His way to make your challenge correct.

Thus, He would be self-limiting.

But let's not stop there -- there's a much simpler way He could do this w/o creating a second mass.

He could simply make Himself (or allow Himself) weaker than the rock He is trying to lift.

See where I'm going with this?

Luke 23:26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
