  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, since it is expected when newly joining any forum, I suppose I will post an intro. ;)
First, the basics:
I am 20 years old as I type this, 21 in a couple weeks. I'm a C.O. in a state penitentiary. I'm also a bit of a computer geek, and I'm just getting a business going in that field. I've completed 3 semesters of college (English Major), but I sort of decided I was wasting time and money, since I had no real idea why I was there or what I actually intended to do with myself in the next 40 years, so I got a *gasp* real job and have since been saving money and looking for something that interests me.
How I got here:
I accidentally stumbled onto this site while searching Google for something mostly unrelated but still having to do with spirituality, and on the first page of results was a member profile for this forum that sort of caught my eye, so I decided to look into it further.
Religious notes:
Now, as for my religion...well, that's sort of an amalgam things I've picked up here and there from a broad variety of sources. I've spent a good deal of the last 5(+?) years digging around the internet, the library, etc., researching all kinds of things to do with religion and spirituality, and I take bits and pieces from all sources, but when it's all said and done, it all seems to still fit within Christianity fairly well, and since I was raised Christian I continue to claim it as my religion. I would not say I am 'active', however.
Final notes:
I think I'll play it like I usually do: Hang back and mostly read, but jump in if something sparks my interest. I'm notoriously bad about staying active in forums, and I tend to prefer smaller communities (IRL and on the net), but I'll try and at least put a small dent in the server's HDD. :p I do, however, use IRC quite regularly, so look for me on your server...I'll be under this same nick on there.

Do you enjoy being a correction officer?
Are there church services or Bible studies provided for the inmates?
I know it varies greatly between prisons.

Do you enjoy being a correction officer?
Yes and no. It's kind of stressful in a lot of different ways. There are a dozen different groups breathing down your neck at any given time...civil rights groups, OSHA, DOJ, etc...and it's hard to keep a positive view of people in general when you spend your whole day with people who were deemed unworthy to live in our society, at least for a time. On the other hand, though, the pay and benefits are good, the camaraderie among coworkers is great, plus every once in a while you actually get to see somebody reform and then be released back into the world...I don't intend to do this job until retirement, though. I don't like it -that- much.
Are there church services or Bible studies provided for the inmates?
Oh yes, extensively. Many different churches hold services in our chapel from dawn until dusk, every day, and we provide for many religions, including a very good Native American religions program, and programs for Wiccans, Satanists, and other pagan religions. Religious materials (mostly, 'general purpose', non-denominational Christian materials) are freely available in all housing units. We also often have special programs, where Christian music groups or special speakers will come in. The chaplains are all very patient and friendly individuals, and comitted to their work. The religious offerings here are FAR from lacking. :)
