Research, testing and Development of oils, adhesives, and plastic products.
Ooooh. That sounds scientific to me.
So when I buy scotch tape,
Bertolli Olive Oil
and Coke

YOU had something to do with it?

Thanks for agreeing with me.
I don't believe it would have made any difference if those in favor of heliocentricity had supported Galileo. I believe the church would have had him stopped anyway because IT didn't want to be wrong...and I don't think it would have allowed itself to apologize for making the mistake of believing in geocentricity.

This was my whole point.

Nowadays, the church is friendly with science...recognizing it as a different belief system; they say -

Science tells us how
Religion tells us why

I think we're better off today.
Now see, now we have to disagree. The Jesuit Priests looked and agreed with Galileo. The philosophers, the scientists, are the ones that opposed him. They used the church for their own ends. had the scientists agreed with galileo, the church would have done nothing. It was politics as usual with the church caught in between and used as a pawn by the scientists.

Science is excellent if not used for political purposes, but not all things presented as science actually are.....

How was the church used as a pawn by the scientists??
It seems the other way around to me...

Peel open any candybar wrapper and the glue is "Nip-Weld"
that sticks only to itself but not on the rolle of stored wrapper.
So the rolls are stored, the candy added, then folded closed as needed.
I helped develop that. And oscar mayer lunch meat with the
reclosable glued cover that re-sticks. And Breath Right strips adhesive.
Engine Oil rather than food oils.

That's great!
I wish you were getting royalties, but I know you're not.

""My dear Kepler, I wish that we might laugh at the remarkable stupidity of the common herd. What do you have to say about the principal philosophers of this academy who are filled with the stubbornness of an asp and do not want to look at either the planets, the moon or the telescope, even though I have freely and deliberately offered them the opportunity a thousand times? Truly, just as the asp stops its ears, so do these philosophers shut their eyes to the light of truth.[9]"

But we know the Priests looked and agreed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_Galilei

"Galileo's championing of heliocentrism and Copernicanism was controversial during his lifetime, when most subscribed to either geocentrism or the Tychonic system.[4] He met with opposition from astronomers, who doubted heliocentrism because of the absence of an observed stellar parallax.....

.....Galileo later defended his views in Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems (1632), which appeared to attack Pope Urban VIII and thus alienated him and the Jesuits, who had both supported Galileo up until this point......"

One might say in fact he brought it upon himself by being flippant....... Up until he insulted the Pope, the Pope had been supporting him.....

I have to read up more on this.
I can't remember that the Pope supported him.

So that makes you a chemist.
Are there chemical beliefs that don't agree with the Bible?

The Catholic Church gets the blame because they were the ones who ordered Galileo to be under house-arrest.
And did it ever occur to you that some scientists would agree with that?

See, when you break up my thoughts like that, you make them say stuff I didn't want to say.

That's not very scientific of you.

Oh...was that the idea??
Huh?

Because that's not the story the church haters want you to believe.... It's buried in the histories because the church haters control the education system....
