As some of you have heard, I along with others have been asked to be a moderator on the forum. This has caused me to come across a problem with doing any 'mod' work on the Sabbath:

I accepted with the understanding that I can only give my undivided attention when I am not at work (9-5) and of course Sabbath I set aside, when I feel I should only 'mod' to help a brother or sister that has fallen into a 'deep hole' to help them out.....This leads me to a important point, we need to set up a Quiet Time in the main debate forum so moderators can also have rest from their labors if posible, comparable to a Adventist nurse or doctor not working if possible on the Sabbath. I am going to present it to Tall73 to incorporate in the rules but need everyones support.

Quiet Time- A time of no debate on the Sabbath so 'mod's' can rest, they would be on 'call' like a doctor or work just as a nurse to assist as needed in case sometime comes, but there would be no debate as that causes the most common issues. Moderators would still be available, just at a reduced 'skeleton crew' schedule or voluntary basis.

Note:The proposal can be amended as needed as long as everyone understands that 'mods' also need their Sabbath and allow for it.

I also think this would be an impractical suggestion to enforce and an unnecessary one. Mods are allowed to take time off on Sabbath (or any other time) if they so desire, regardless of whether there is debating or reports in the SDA forum. Mods are not required to be here all the time, and reports can't be handled immediately anyway because opinions from several staff members are required before action is taken.

Then can we put up a sticky that says "There are many ways to rest and worship God on the Sabbath and sharing truth is considered one of them, but we also need to let moderators have their Sabbath. So they will not be available as a norm as they will not be looking at reports or responding to moderator issues on the Sabbath.'

Nothing stops you from creating a post with that message and bumping it all day long.

Bad Idea.

Sabbath is the most active day for people to come and visit . That is when the most discussion will occur.

Reddog,

This is a waste of time and a distraction to the rule process. This is a impractical situation to begin with

But discussion is fine, studying together, sharing truth, those would be allowed without question. But the 'no debate' would give the 'mods' there Sabbath without everyone coming over and tugging and dragging them here and there to this or that issue....

We have not come across this before because we didnt have moderators who believed strongly on the Sabbath or were not Adventist, but I feel this is a testimony to all that we must give. Either we apply the Sabbath universally to all our dealings or we 'fudge' on what we believe.......

man this idealims is not helping. Sophia has already addressed this. mod's can do thing when they want. They don't have to do things on Sabbath.

Plus who's sabbath are you talking about. Sabbath time in the UK is different the Sabbath in Australia.
does a person in Australia have to do wait until sundown in califorina to do his Mod work?

Yes, but thats my point, the former mods werent Adventist or didnt hold the Sabbath truth as some of the new moderators, speaking of me specifically as I have not polled the others....

So moderators could not parcipate in any fellowship because they would be interrupted, sent PM's so the 'warning msg box' would be flashing or asked to please 'mod' or settle some issue on their Sabbath.......

(Everyone would do it as they personally observe according to their timezone, anyone in California would know that a Mod in Britain had already started their Sabbath, so would let them observe it in manner they desire, and all are blessed)

Why do we have to "let" people observe the Sabbath? We are adults here. We are able to make these kinds of decisions for ourselves. I feel the same way about Adventist forums that shut down their game arcades during the Sabbath.

Why do we "let" people have freedom of religion, or "let" Jews observe the Sabbath, were do you want to begin taking away others right to their beliefs?.......

No one if forcing the mods to moderate on the Sabbath. If they all stayed away on the Sabbath the reports would sit there until Sunday.

But I guarantee you people would be letting them know all Sabbath long about any issues if they came in to fellowship, and you know that is a given......

If they don't have the personal discipline to stick to what they have vowed maybe they should not be moderators.

Who, the people with complaints????

As for me as you read in the OP "I accepted with the understanding that I can only give my undivided attention when I am not at work (9-5) and of course Sabbath I set aside,"

And you have made your point. No will be expecting you to deal with reports on the Sabbath. Why do you keep belaboring the point?

So you think I will be able to come and fellowship on Sabbath without having to put my 'mod' hat or answering complaints and questions from frustrated posters? Human nature tells me that aint going to happen
