Them counting threads must be real challenging then :D
Then you don't know them, do you?

"Them counting threads" aren't meant to be replied to, unless specified in the OP.

You count ... you don't talk.

Well if Genesis 1 is an allegory, I'd like to know what this tree represents if not science.

Ever read the life of Pi? In a similar sense it's a model of reality. Whether or not Adam and Eve were historical humans is not as important to me as the truth the story represents, and that truth doesn't need to be simple enough to write in a compact book to be real. That the lesson to be learned here is that the tree wasn't much other than any other fruit bearing tree, makes no sense and teaches us practically nothing.

But then, the Harry Potter stories carry exactly the same truth, don't they?

Actually, it teaches plenty... the tree could've been a perfectly ordinary tree, but what makes it special in the story is that God said "don't eat from it," and they did.

The lesson learned is not to disobey God under any circumstances... that the disobedience came from eating a fruit is incidental. God could've just as easily said "Don't sing showtunes while balancing on one foot," expelled A&E for doing that (which, of course, the serpent would've talked them into doing), and the story would lose nothing.

So the lesson is that God gives arbitrary, nonsensical commands which we would have to obey if they applied to us, but we don't because they don't apply... sorry it still teaches me nothing.

The lesson is to obey God even if He gives commands which seem arbitrary and nonsensical to us... or else.

I've never met a Christian who didn't believe that.

So why not just write a short and simple proverb? Sorry it just doesn't make any sense that the author went to all the trouble to write an entire short story for such a simple lesson, and much less to attribute the fall of the human race to it all.

I've never met a Christian who didn't believe that.

Okay.

So why not just write a short proverb? This doesn't make any sense.

Since when is religion required to make sense? ;)

You don't need to understand; you only need to obey.

I don't follow a nonsensical religion. You can if you want. Good luck.

Wait, wut... you're a Christian, though.

Have you read your sig lately?

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, and not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science.

I have no idea about what you're even saying.

The Harry Potter stories give us lessons to learn, just as you claim the story of Adam and Eve does.

Whether or not Harry, Ron and Hermione were historical humans is not as important to me as the truth the story represents, and that truth doesn't need to be simple enough to write in a compact book to be real.

So what? If that were the case, Harry Potter would be much more than a work of fiction meant to entertain you. It's not, so you're not saying much.

God never asked you to "follow" Him... only to follow Him.

Okay.

Maybe you haven't noticed what it said under my "faith"?

Since you must have overlooked mine when you attempted to tell me what I believe, I figured that's just what we do here.

Give me one example.

That very often, doing the right thing is harder than doing the wrong thing. It also teaches us that a person's status in society doesn't give any indication as to whether they are good people or not.
