The verse does not say "slave". It says servant and the servant was refusing to work. When someone pays the others debt off and then that person agrees in return to work it off but changes his mind and sits around, what would you do? Talk sternly to him? Throw him out? You need to be paid back that money. Do you let him have a free ride?

Also, if there were no rules then you could do anything you want with a servant. Do you want the bible to be silent on that in the passages that give all the laws for the land? Slavery (selling and buying humans) was a crime punishable by death.

Right. When your slave refuses to work, you can beat the hell out of him, just so long as he doesn't die.

The bible says the world was created in six days and the animals and man in the forms we have today. Not apes. It says there was a world wide flood 4000 years ago. Do you need to see the verses again?

I am not using the Bible to defend idiocy. You are. Therefore I don't really care what the Bible says when it is wrong. You on the other hand are supposed to believe all of the nonsense in it so the errors in the Bible can be used against you.

Do you understand that? It is basic logic.

If there were errors in my science they could be used against me. You have yet to show any such errors. I base my views upon testable science, not upon superstition.

No, because this is stupid and has no basis in reality.

No, your mistranslation says "servant". Honest translations say "slave":

35 “‘If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you. 36 Do not take interest or any profit from them, but fear your God, so that they may continue to live among you. 37 You must not lend them money at interest or sell them food at a profit. 38 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.

39 “‘If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and sell themselves to you, do not make them work as slaves. 40 They are to be treated as hired workers or temporary residents among you; they are to work for you until the Year of Jubilee. 41 Then they and their children are to be released, and they will go back to their own clans and to the property of their ancestors. 42 Because the Israelites are my servants, whom I brought out of Egypt, they must not be sold as slaves. 43 Do not rule over them ruthlessly, but fear your God.

44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

47 “‘If a foreigner residing among you becomes rich and any of your fellow Israelites become poor and sell themselves to the foreigner or to a member of the foreigner’s clan, 48 they retain the right of redemption after they have sold themselves. One of their relatives may redeem them: 49 An uncle or a cousin or any blood relative in their clan may redeem them. Or if they prosper, they may redeem themselves. 50 They and their buyer are to count the time from the year they sold themselves up to the Year of Jubilee. The price for their release is to be based on the rate paid to a hired worker for that number of years. 51 If many years remain, they must pay for their redemption a larger share of the price paid for them. 52 If only a few years remain until the Year of Jubilee, they are to compute that and pay for their redemption accordingly. 53 They are to be treated as workers hired from year to year; you must see to it that those to whom they owe service do not rule over them ruthlessly.

54 “‘Even if someone is not redeemed in any of these ways, they and their children are to be released in the Year of Jubilee, 55 for the Israelites belong to me as servants. They are my servants, whom I brought out of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

Leviticus 25 NIV - The Sabbath Year - The LORD said to - Bible Gateway

Please note, this is the whole passage. Notice how it differentiates between Hebrew servants and foreign slaves. The Hebrews were to be let go eventually, not the slaves. Now, do you want to see the verse that tells you how to make even a fellow Hebrew a slave forever? And at no cost to the slave owner to boot. What a sweet deal.

No, because this is stupid and has no basis in reality.

So then you admit that changing the word and usage of servant or bondman to slave to fit your current idea of slave while ignoring God's law of death to anyone who buys and sells humans as property is stupid and has no basis in reality?

You misunderstood the only verse that you supplied. That was a verse against kidnapping, not a verse against slavery.

Do you need to see more verses that tell you how you can use slaves? Did you want to see the one that says you can beat your slaves to within an inch of their lives?

It's been pointed out to you already that the original is "slave." Call it what you want, but owning another human and beating them within an inch of their life is abhorrent. I know this is wrong, and your god didn't. This makes my morality better than the god of the OT.
