  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has it been claimed that the Earth being the center of the Universe would violate any laws of physics? I've never heard that argument made.

But, relatively speaking we are the center of our universe because we see the same distance in all directions we look. That doesn't necessarily mean we are at the center of The Universe though.

If the earth is at the center of the universe, what laws of physics have been violated?

Be specific please; and please name the law(s).
Earth as center would counter various observations we've made that cohere with certain laws of physics.

Not a physicist, but I think we observe astronomical objects with a variety of redshifts explainable by our non-centered position. For us to be centered, given those observations, conservation of momentum or speed of light would have to be broken.

(This is a layperson venturing a little further than I should probably)

Not that I'm aware of.

But if it was, here's a thread for said laws to be listed.

I really cannot think, off the top of my head, that any laws of physics would be violated from Earth being the centre of the universe.

I can't either.

Thanks for an honest reply.

Earth is the second layer of the three layer creation cake God created.

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

"Carved image".... does that include 3D printed things, painted images, photographs?

For earth to be center, the universe would have to be symmetrical.

what of pride or of really of being God chosen. I don’t know of our position as the center, but we are the center of Gods focus. God hasn’t revealed it to us, how can we really measure an expanding universe moving at the speed of light away. Similarly many hold up Israel as the center of the earth. The flat map of the earth. We could be a hub for the universe to revolve like the sun is center of a lot of different variable distances. I don’t see any laws broken.

The earth is not the center of the universe, so the laws of physics have not been violated.

I haven't taken a physics course since my junior year of high school (10+ years ago) so the subject of physics is a mystery to me.

The earth is not the center of the universe, so the laws of physics have not been violated.

In a hypothetical situation, where Earth is found to be the centre of the known universe, what laws of physics would be violated?

ETA: Or rather, as I just realised and probably AV should have said, what laws would have to be changed?
