  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It sure is terrible about how war can change people. There was a fellow brother in my old church named Doug who actually fought in Fallujah when it was recognized as the frontline of the Iraqi conflict. He posted pictures of him actually during combat, and it showed him carrying a wounded soldier out of harm's way.

He came back for a brief moment and actually led my group for bible study. I remember him saying," I can't necessarily tell you anything about the war, because I can't explain it without mentioning vivid details of what actually happened out there."

He rarely spoke after that time being, and it did give us an impression that he was scarred from memories of the battles that took place. He went back recently to serve once again near the borders of Iraq (forgot afterwards). I wish the best of luck as your family has to go through such painful process.

I will be praying for your brother as well as the other troops that are over here. He will be ok because God honors the prayers of the saints. Try not to be scared because that is not the feeling that God would have for you. I know being scared is natural but lean on Jesus and He won't fail you!

Someitmes it is not really a case of being scarred, but of relativity. Something I found from personal experience is - there are some things that people back in "civvy street", who have never been to a war zone, have no comprehension of. You get back home and you leave "the shop" behind. If civilians do ask you, and you tell them, you can see this glazed look go over their eyes, and see that they have already switched off - it's too unreal, and it isn't as Hollywood would have put it, so they can't relate. That's why real veterans don't really talk about those sort of things.

It's like a Neuro Surgeon talking about the latest brain operation technique... someone who is not a doctor will get lost in the jargon.

There may even be things that make sense to a combatant - natural reactions under fire - that civillians will think are dreadful.

Admittedly, war is not a pleasant thing, and I make no effort to glorify it, but I do say that soldiers hold to an honourable cause (We can't choose to behave pleasantly if we want to survive), but without them, war comes to the doorsteps of our homes (as 9/11 proved). The troops in the field need our prayers.

Blessings
BoazB:)
