Here is my Apple Challenge:

I create an apple ex nihilo into the palm of your hand.

What evidence would you use to convince your friend I did this?

Now, in this thread, assume you are an observer in outer space, and you observed the following occur:

1. Me create an apple ex nihilo into Joe's hand.
2. Joe take that apple to Tom and tell him what I did.
3. Tom deny it.

If you had to report back to your superior as to whether Tom was right or wrong, how would you respond?

I would say, "there's this jerk who can create food from nothing and he'd rather play semantic games and recreate old threads than help all of earth's starving people with his amazing powers."

Tom never witnessed the actual event so there is no reason for him to believe it. If I told you I could fart out gold bricks would you believe me without witnessing it? Be honest.

I intended to make this a poll with the following options:

1. Tom was right.
2. Tom was wrong.

... but overlooked the CREATE A POLL button - (or whatever it's called).

I will answer your question honestly. I expect you will not like my answer, and will try to discredit it. Nevertheless, here it is:

1. I would report that an apple seemed to appear out of thin air in Joe's hand.
2. Joe took the apple to Tom and Tom, quite reasonably, didn't beleive it was created "ex nihilo."
3. I do not know myself if the apple is real, or how it came to be in Joe's hand. I will continue to investigate the issue.
4. End report.

I would have to say that Tom was wrong to deny Joe's claim.

In the first scenario, the only evidence you have is the apple and your personal experience.
If all the tests show the apple is ordinary then people have no reason to assume it's extraordinary. Even IF you know you are 100% correct, you can not blame others for not just taking your word for it.
If we did that all the time the world would be in a lot of trouble because i would mean idiots have as much influence as actual smart people.

I would respond the steps 1,2 and 3 as you've described to that superior.
And then the logic applied in the first example STILL APPLIES.

This isn't about right or wrong, it's about wanting your opinion being blindly accepted without any resistance even if you have absolutely no concrete evidence to support your claim.

You can not expect people to trust just anyone who has a personal experience. What goes on in your mind is not evidence for anything. People say they have been abducted by aliens all over the world. Do we listen to them just because they say it really did happen? Of course not!

I would report that Tom is wrong in his claim but right in the fact that he doesn't just take Joe's word for something extraordinary.
