  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Reality says an object in motion will tend to stay in motion ... God stopped the earth's rotation.

Reality says things decompose ... God halted the decomposition process during the wilderness wanderings.

Reality says objects burn up ... God prevented a bush and Daniel's three friends from burning up.

Reality says a two-piece fish dinner can't feed 5000 people ... God had them take up twelve basketsful when they were done eating.

And any time you'd like to present some...you know...EVIDENCE, to support those claims would be just peachy...!

Because, without that evidence your book's claims about those events are no more trustworthy than Mohammed's claim that he took a horsey-ride to heaven, or Homer's claim that Perseus slew the Medusa...

You see, you view faith as a virtue....when, in fact, it is nothing more than a licence to make s**t up...!

It does not matter if you understand the definition of religion or not. It is a religion, and all religions, Christianity included, have martyrs. Why do you think that Christian martyrs are special?

And no, those are not the thoughts of God, those are the thoughts of the writers of the Bible. They are not necessarily the same thing.
Spoken like a true atheist.

Do you believe that Mohammed took a horsey-ride to heaven?

Do you believe that Perseus slew the Medusa?

If not, is it okay with you if I don't either?

He is able to make himself believe what ever he wants just by telling himself that what others believe is even more foolish than what he believes.
Um ... I'm under the impression that Biggles doesn't believe that stuff he posted about Mohammad & Perseus, either.

I'm just agreeing with him.

If that's not good enough for you, that's just kinda tough, isn't it?

The point was not to decide which of those was the correct one to believe in...

The point was that they are all EQUALLY unlikely...

But you know that....the day that you argue honestly and with some integrity, I think I'll faint...

Ya ... it's not a decision with you guys, is it?

Decision requires reason, doesn't it?

It's all automatic.

Just shoot'em all and let your own logic sort it out, eh?
The point was that they are all EQUALLY unlikely...
2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
But you know that....the day that you argue honestly and with some integrity, I think I'll faint...
Then the day I see you faint, is the day I'll assume you've removed a few mental blocks.

Yawn....and I imagine I could find some lines from the Q'ran that boast that only IT has the 'light'...

And I imagine the Greek myths also purport to be the truth...

Like I said.....your particular fantasies are just as likely as any of those others to be true.....

If, by accident of birth, you had been born in Saudi Arabia, you'd most likely be spittin' and cursin' the other Christians here as infidel dogs...

If in Italy, you'd be lecturing us to the effect that the Holy Father in Rome is your spiritual leader....

In India, you'd be taking your pick from dozens of gods to worship on any given day...

The 'truth' of your religion is defined by nothing more complicated than the city hospital in which you drew first breath......

He will dismiss your arguments by saying something stupid like "I was a homebirth" which for him will mean his religion is the one true religion.

Your first 9 words were all you needed to say... ;)

Which translated means you do not have an answer,
I know where I was born though.

And I don't need to use it as an excuse for why I am what I am.

See, there's that reasoning again...or lack of it in your case....

Your place of birth isn't an "excuse" for your particular religion...it's an explanation for it...

Do try hard to keep up....I'll try to type as slowly as I can....

Make it 19, and I'll give you a verse of Scripture comprised of 19 one-syllable words that any child can understand, yet stymie the world's "best" scientists.

Just because God does a miracle now and then does not say anything about evolution or the age of the earth! There's no connection between those concepts!
