"Well, my ability is something called teleportation. I can kind of, like, poof from one location to another. So far I've been able to teleport, but I have yet to appear in my desired location.."

He shrugged.

"So, I'm guessing your powers are invisibility and being able to walk through stuff?? I mean, I just dropped right through you!! How did you learn to control that???"

"Well, i haven't exactly learned how to control it. It kinda just happens on its own sometimes. I don't know what triggered it before. We should probably head to lunch now, before we miss it."

Luna nodded as Katherine walked off. She was kind of depressed that Katherine hadn't asked if she wanted to go with her, but hey, they had just met today. It's not like they really knew each other that well. Luna sighed as she pulled her hood back up and headed towards the dining hall.

Kyler awoke to the sound of a TV blasting. Flame of course. Kyler stretched and got out of bed, then slouched into Flame's room. He was laying in bed with a bag of potato chips laughing at the television.

"Could you keep the noise down? some of us are actually trying to sleep."

Flame looked back at Kyler, he wasn't even aware that Kyler had entered the room. "Why waste time sleeping? there will be plenty of time to sleep when I'm dead."

"Are you trying to tell me that you didn't sleep at all last night?"

"like i said. Its a waste of time. I only sleep when i need to. "

Kyler sighed. The truth was that Kyler had been having trouble sleeping the past few days, and he wasn't happy about it. "Well just keep it down, i want to sleep."

"Alright, fine" JAson said as he lowed the volume on the TV . "not going to visit the family? more than half the accademy is gome for the weekend."

"not now. My dad is away, but i'm going to visit him next brake. What about you?"

"Well i'm not exactlly allowed to leave the grounds just yet," Jason said as he lifted theleg of his pant to reveale a tracking devise latched to his ankle."But even if i was, i wouldn't be spending my time anywhere near my parents. " then Jason decided to change the subject. "So, is your hair naturally that white?"

Kyler was just getting anoyed now. "is your hair naturally that orange?"

"no its not. I dyed it to match the flames on my arms."

"Well my hair is natural." then Kyler left to try to fall back asleep, but he doubted tat he would be able to.

Connor got upand left his bed. HE could here his room mate Andrew in the other room. It sounded like he might be crying.

During the first night at the academy, Connor had had the dorm room to himself. Then Drew showed up. He didn't mind having a room mate. He thought maybe they'd ec=ven be friends. But Drew was always so distant, keeping to himself and nodding through the motions. But something wasn't quite right with him. He walked into the room.

"Drew... you okay??" the guy didn't move. Concerned, Connor walked closer. "Drew... are you alright, man??"

He reached out and touched Drew's shoulder...

Sammy left early in the morning to go visit her parents. She had missed them during her first week away. She jumped into her pink convertible, and sped out of the lot... after spinning her tires for a few seconds.

She smiled as the scent of burning rubber filled the air, then jetted of to the highway, eager to see her family and sleep in her own bed for the night. Sunday, she'd have to be back before dark.

It was after noon when Sammy finally arrived home.

"Mom!! Dad!! I'm back!! I've come home for the weekend!!!"

Katherine had been up since 6 am and was sitting comfortably cross-legged atop some tree roots, leaned back against the trunk of the large oak. Lenny was curled up in her lap, asleep, and she stroked his head absentmindedly as she stared off at the sky. She was holding her cell phone in her right hand, and kept glancing at it occasionally. As soon as the time turned to 8am, a smile crept onto her face and she lifted the phone to her ear, touching 2 to speed-dial her father's number.

"Come on come on pick up .... pick up ...." she muttered to herself, biting her lip anxiously. She'd promised herself that she wouldn't call her dad until Saturday; she was 18 now and she had to learn how to take care of herself, no matter how much she missed him. When she got the answering machine, a small frown had placed itself on her forehead, and her tone was slightly impatient as she left her message. "Daddy!!! Are you still in bed??!!! It's 8 o'clock!!! I told you I would call at 8 now where are you?" she exclaimed.

She then paused for a moment, not sure what else to say. "Well...I miss you...call me back when you get this messa-"

"Mmm...hello?" a groggy voice said on the other end.

"Daddy, you get out of bed!! Good gracious, my first weekend gone and you're already sleeping in!!" Katherine exclaimed, sounding a little frustrated, but then she let out a string of giggles. "Oh, you silly thing...I wish I was there to fix you coffee; that would get you up," she said, grinning.

"Yea...but you're 500 miles away," her dad answered, and she could picture him smiling softly, that soft sparkle in his big blue eyes.

"I know...it feels like a whole other country here..." she said softly, watching a squirrel run by.

"I know, hun, but you'll be all right.." he answered warmly, "and those people aren't like the kids at school...they won't turn you in to the police for what you can do."

"I know..." she said, smiling a little, "thanks for reminding me...I've actually talked to a few people, maybe even made a friend or two..I'm not sure....but there are some very interesting people here. I don't think all of them were as lucky as I was. I don't think they've all grown up being loved."

"Yea, I'm sure..." her dad said. She could tell he was waking up already.

"How's Mimi?" she asked, smiling. She had bought her dad a fluffy grey kitten before she left so that he wouldn't get too lonely.

"Oh, she's curled up against my legs. She's a good girl. Thanks for giving her to me, hun, she keeps me company," he answered.

"No problem, dad..." Katherine said, smiling softly. "Well, sorry if I woke you up..just wanted to talk to you before I got breakfast and started my first weekend here..."

"It's fine, I don't mind...I should be getting up anyway...I think Mimi is hungry," he said, and she heard the sheets rustle as he got up.

"All right..well I'm going to go find something to eat. I'll talk to you later, ok?"

"Ok. Call me about lunchtime then? Or should I call you?" he asked.

"I'm not sure...I don't think I'll be doing anything...but I guess I'll call you..." she said, "love you daddy..."

"Love you too. Bye hun," he said, then hung up.

She slipped her phone into her pocket and leaned back, wishing she could've gone home; but she wouldn't be able to fly back for a month.

Home felt weird, even after only a week at the academy. Caitlyn had been excited to see everyone again, but she had gotten used to chatting about abilities and classes, and everyone here seemed to just want to avoid the whole idea, as if by going to the academy she had actually become a mutant, rather than just realized she was one. everyone talked carefully around the subject, telling her all about nothing to keep the subject of her differentness from coming up. so did I grow fangs overnight or what? No one here seemed to think of her as a regular person anymore. Guess I just got used to being around people who took the notion for granted. got used to it pretty fast if so. finally they ran out of small talk and escaped off to bed, leaving Caitlyn alone downstairs. Well that certainly wasn't what I was expecting.

Connor nodded. He could tell Drew was lying, but he didn't think now was the time to press the matter.

"I think I'm gonna go back to bed for a few more hours. I never got to sleep in at home, so since I've got the time, I've got a few years worth of beauty sleep to catch up on. Have fun, though."

He turned and went back to bed, though something about the way Andrew had acted haunted him. What could be so bad as to make his rock hard room mate break down. He sat in bed beneath the covers and wondered...

Sammy looked around the house. It looked as if no one had been there for the last week. She walked up the stairs.

"Mom... Dad?? Where are you??"

She went back downstairs and sat on the couch. Where could they have gone?? The she saw that the message button was blinking on the answering machine. She walked over and pushee the button.

"Hey sweetheart. Listen, Sammantha, I'm sorry we couldn't be herebut it's just... Oh... I thought this wuld be easier.. Look. Dear, what I'm trying to say is, we don't feel safe around you now. That time when you lost control... it terified us. Now that the government is trying to make you use it... I'm sorrt baby. We do ove you, though. Maybe one day when you're older you'll understand. Mbe if they ever find a cure you'll be able to see us again. I love honey." click.

Sammantha sat in shock. She couldn't believe it!! Her own mother disowned her. Her parents wre scred of her. She shook her head. There was noreason to. She could never hurt them. Furthermore, she didn't even know how to use her powers. She closed her eyes and layed down on the couch, crying.

Jason watched some more tv, the decided it was time to get up. he got dresses in some ripped jeans and a black tee. the head globbed some gell into his hands and spiked his hair. he was good to go, so made his way down stairs. and outside. he kept looking at his watch waiting and waiting, until he decided he had waited long enough. Hopefully the mail would be here by now. Jason ran down to the main office and right up to the desk. "So, was there any mail for me today?" The lady behind the desk looked up with a look that said she dinot want to be bothered "name?" she asked. Jason looked around to be sure none of his fellow agents in training were around. "Jason kent." he siad as fast as possible. she got up slowly,moned, walked over to the box on the other side of the room, and came back with a package. she put the pacage on the desk and sat back down to er work. Jason shrugged and with an excited look on his face, snatched the package and ran out of that stufy office. Jaon found a bench to sit on, then satarted tearing open his package. inside was a pair of jeans and peice of paper, which read

WARNING!! WILL NOT PROTECT AGAINST BURNS. THIS IS A FIRE RESISTANT MATERIAL NOT A FIRE PROOF MATERIAL.

"What's that supposd to mean, i thought it said fire proof. " Jason held up the pants, they were his size and looked like ordinary jeans. hopefully this wan't some kind of skam. Jason snapped his fingers and lite the pants on fire. the cuaght on fire easily. "oh man!" then Jason realized something. "hey, the pants aren't burning up. thats awsome!" Jason ran backt ohis room, changed into his new pants, then ran back down to test them out. Jason went to the backetball court, which was empty. he set his leggs and arms on fire for a few seconds, then put them out. the sleaves on his shirt were completelt burned off, but his pants were still whole. " oh, I'm gonna like this." then Jason decided he was gonna see just how hot he could get his fire. but here he would melt something. the pool. that would be the perfect place.

much as she had looked forward to going home for a bit, Caitlyn was relieved to be back at the academy. She had cut her visit short because it was more stress than it was worth to try to convince everyone she wasn't going to explode into some kind of destructive frenzy any second. or whatever else they thought was going to happen just because I came here. and yeesh, what useless conversations. I don't care about everyone's stupid haircuts and test marks. but if they let me tell them anything about here they'd have to actually believe I was a mutant. still brooding, she wandered over to a nearby tree, pulled a leaf off and started shredding it.

((Sorry guys, I'm in the process of moving, so I probably won't be able to get on much till Saturday. :o ))

The next day, Sammy got into her car. She needed to get away from that house. She took her keys and her purse and walked out to her car. But something was wrong. All of her tires were slashed, her passenger window was broken, and a message had been keyed into the side of her car and wrapped around all the way aropund..

Traitor. You help the government whose chemical wars created us. Stay home or burn with the scum.

Sammy covered her mouth to stiffle a scream. The mutant gangs. They must be against the FBI's plots. She ran back inside and locked the door. How did she know this ws her house?? How??

She picked up the phone and dialed 911. She didn't want to go outside without protection.

Caitlyn looked up sharply as Flame spoke. she hadn't even noticed him approaching. "Hey Cat." he said. "How was visiting with the family? I thought you'd be gone longer than that."
"Awkward. And I was going to be. I came back early. Apparently having superspeed that you can't even use yet is enough to get you kicked out of society. no one was willing to talk around me anymore. it was just..." Impossible, rediculous, irritating, stupid, depressing..."uncomfortable." she didn't really want to talk about it. she shoved the thought, and the brooding that went with it, out of her mind and said, in as light a tone as she could manage;
"so, how were things here for the short time I was gone, slow? how many people stuck around for the weekend?"

A tow truck came and took Sammy's car to the shop and an agent was sent to pick her up. She felt rather embarassed that she had to be treated like a chld. But she was scared. The woman beside her smiled.

"Are you gonna be alright?? You seeem rather shaken."

sam nodded. "I'm fine., I just wanna get back. Back where I belong." Back where I'm safe awa from the world.

"Ok. But you may be required to see a councilor when you get back to the academy. Policy, you know??"

Sammantha nodded even though she didn't know. She didn't know everything that this job was going to scost her. She didn't know the toll it would take on her life. But she now knew this This was herlife and her home. No going back. No turning away. For better or worse, these other mutants would have to become her family.

She just sat and stared out the window for the rest of the ride back.
