  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I sing and play flute, piano, organ, guitar and many other instruments a little bit. I was an elementary music teacher (17 years) until I had to quit due to health reasons. I also have taught private flute, piano, voice, and guitar.

Wow, it is hard to choose favorite pieces. I think my favorite composer is Rachmaninoff. I love Rachmaninoff's "Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini", Copland's "Appalachian Spring", John Rutter's "Gloria", just to name a few!

I really like Tchaikovsky, also. The Romantic era is my favorite. (AND I love Pachelbel's "Canon in D", no matter how much people make fun of it!)

I'm a cellist too. Started piano at 5... then and pursued with the cello! ^^ I agree, Bach's prelude in his first suite is very good. And Tchaikovsky is also my favorite composer! I admire the intensity he puts in every song. I'm also a singer, though I really need lessons to strengthen my range. :help:

I play the violin, the piano, the viola and I sing. I also play the guitar and cello a little.
Of my main 'instruments' - piano, violin and singing I probably have seperate favorites. The violin would have to be czardaz (even though I can't play it!) or possibly palladio by Karl Jenkins, piano would be anything by einaudi (sp?) or for an orchestral piano piece, Rhapsody in Blue which is absolutely brilliant! For singing I prefer choral works as I have more experience in that area. The Armed man by Karl Jenkins is brilliant and just about anything by Rutter is going to be good. I also like some lesser known, more contempary songs. Namely 'Shenandoah Blues', Bob Chilcott's 'Spells' and the many African Tribal songs composed by Mike Brewer.

I play the flute and am in my 3rd year at a univeristy majoring in flute performance. Yep, I teach privately, teaching is what I ultimately want to do (although, of course, I want to be able to perform as much as possible).

I am an absolute sucker for anything by Mozart, especially the Prague Symphony and both of his flute concertos. I also really like the Reinecke flute concerto (which I'm playing for the concerto competition at my school this year). And of course there's always anything by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, and Sibelius. The Holst Suites and the Planets are great as well.

And, being Polish, of course I'm going to say that Chopin is amazing ^_^

Harpsichord is awesome. I want to take lessons someday. I have access to the harpsichords at the university, and fool around with them somethimes. ^_^

I play classical guitar and I`m in school to teach it. Favorite pieces would have to be Four Season from Vivaldi and his Concerto In D Major for Lute RV 93, Handels Messiah and Watermusic, Bachs Canatas, everyone I`ve heard has became a favorite. i`m a baroque man. And yes I teach, and plan to major in Music Education and COmpostion and Theology when I get to ECU. I`m at a community college with an AFA in music.

I started playing violin when i was 2-3 and quit last summer...I still play now and then, but it's all easy stuff just for when I'm asked to, nothing serious....I've played a bit of flute, and I do a lot of singing at church (youth worship leader & special music) as well as in a big Christian performing arts team I'm in

I'm a semi-professional opera singer. My favorite opera is probably Le Nozze di Figaro. I sing the Countess arias, although I've never done the role. I also really like French art song, esp. Poulenc.
I'm hoping to start my own voice studio in a few months.

I'm not by any means a renowned musician or anything, but I "dabble."

No, I can play clarinet, guitar, piano, alto clarinet, and alto sax.
I may end up teaching music one day... I'd like to do something with music.
