  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How can I slow down the burn rate when burning music files to a CD?

also how can I know if a CD player will play my CD's?

the "jam box" type I have play the burned Cd's well for a few times and then they start to develop skips? Is this the player?

I do so love the idea of arranging my songs in an order suitable to my tastes and having them be portable so I can take them with me to the beach of play them outdoors-how can I make quality burns.

The only device I have is Windows 7 on a laptop and have been converting Youtube video to MP3 format and then burning the CD's.

I'm not really literate in this stuff so please use lay terms :)

Are the CDs physically getting scratched? Because that's what it sounds like if they play okay at first but then start developing skips later.

Any burning software worth using will give you the ability to set a lower burn speed (I'd personally recommend ImgBurn, but I've also heard good things about InfraRecorder). My rule of thumb is usually half the top speed* of the burner plus (optionally, for slower burners) one step up. So if the burner is capable of a maximum burn speed of 52x, go with 24x or thereabouts. If it's like my old 16x speed burner, it'd be 6x or 8x. This applies for both CDs or DVDs. It'd still apply to Blu-ray if I had a Blu-ray burner.

*top speed is determined by what kind of disc you're burning. CD burning will almost always have a higher top speed than DVD burning, by a factor of 3 or even 4. The different variants of CD (-R, -RW) and DVD (+-R, +-RW, +-DL, etc.) can also have different top speeds.

Most portable CD players from the last 12 or 13 years should be able to play burned CDs with zero issues. One thing to keep in mind is that if the player has an electronic anti-skip function, use it. Or you could get a cheap MP3 player that has playlist support (so you can still arrange them in a predetermined order) and not have to deal with skips at all unless it's there in the actual MP3 file. Plus they take up less space/weigh less than a CD player does, and store more music.

no scratches that are detectable by my eyesight. could it be a file corruption of some sort-there is also empty spacing between some songs, how does that happen?

(I will check on the speed thing and software-thanks) Does it matter if you use Cd-RW disks?

No, it doesn't matter if the discs are CD-RW. The dye on the bottom of the discs is different than CD-R discs (in order to facilitate the ability to rewrite the disc), but that's the only difference. There might be an off-chance that the laser in the CD player could be improperly reading the disc and that leads to the dye acting up, but I've never heard of that happening (of course, I always go with -R only discs).

The spacing may be the burning software's settings. Usually there's a couple seconds inserted between tracks by default, but this can sometimes be adjusted by the software.

Do the CD's skip when played in your CD/DVD drive?
My stepson (who is a geek),told me that there is no reason for the CD's to start skipping.CDs do not loose integrity with normal play, and the way you burn them is perfectly acceptable..
how old is the "jambox"?
Run a line from your headphone jack of your laptop to an open, compatible input on the box and try playing them that way.If you have an EQ installed on the lap top, that would be a plus for sound quality.
