Any one out there hunt wild mushrooms, especially the morel?

I do, my family has 12 acres of woods that usually has some pretty good ones in it.
Last year it was a little too dry and most were really small and pretty dry. I'm a little disappointed that I probably won't get too many this year since I'm at school, last year I was home around this time for a few weekends and got a few.

Where I live is mushroom heaven especially in the fall. It's a big list of the ones we take after the first rain.

I hunt morels. It's been a good year for them. For some reason they came up early this year (probably because we didn't have much of a winter). Did they come up early around your guys' areas?

Nope. The hunting around here has been pretty bad. I've found a few, but they were all tiny and almost not worth cooking. But I'll try again tomorrow.

I found aboyt 10 yesterday on our property...... which was a first! I dropped small tool and was on my hands and knees when ..........wow!. They were too dried out and buggy to use. I will be headed to higher elevation soon. They usually follow the snow line.

The ones I found the other day were white. We have a place much higher up that we gather white morels They sure are much larger.

I would say you need to go with someone that has been doing it for a long time. There should be a club in your area. Join one and go on forays with them. You should start with one easy one like morels. They only have one "look alike" It seems that everyone starts with chantrells, It's another easy one. Remember one thing..........When in doubt.......throw it out! Don't guess! Livers are hard to replace!

Northern California..........far north! We get from 70 to over 100 inches of rain a year. Great for fun....guys!
