  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

AAARRRGGH!

Changed my MSN/Hotmail password today, and find that I can't sign into MSN Messenger. I went to the Help page to troubleshoot, and so far, my email & password are fine. I checked the connection from the MSN Messenger, I checked the connection from IE, everything checks out fine. I can access the Passport and my Hotmail. However, when I went to a page to contact MSN, it says that the MSN service is not available.

I've been at it for a 1/2 hour and I'm frustrated.

So I'm wondering if anyone else is having a problem besides me.

I have Windows XP SP2, Firefox browser, MSN Messenger 7.0, if that helps.

thanks in advance.

Problem solved:

when I tried to sign in once more-- I noticed a little note below the "'sign in" button; 'sign in with a different email' -- it brought up a box with a drop down menu of any email I want to sign in. I chose my default email, and entered in my password, and ticked "automatically sign in"

lo and behold, I got in. MSN is sooo confusing. :p

Are you sure they are both msn messenger? I thought if you upgraded one, it would automatically upgrade any versions of msn messenger found on the computer/laptop. Are you sure one of them isn't windows messenger?

You say you have two - they should both be the same program, but you have two open. Therefore, removing one of them would remove the other.

Ahh ok. You can delete windows messenger without affecting msn. What you need to do is this: (compliments of my computer savvy boyfriend lol)

How to uninstall Windows Messenger said:
Start -> Run

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection%windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

This will uninstall Windows Messenger.

Hope this helps!

if that doesn't work, at the least you can disable it using a very amusing trick, you look in explorer in the drive where you installed windows (generally "c:\") go into "Program Files" find a folder called "Messenger" and rename it to "MessengerDisabled".
From there if you restart that should tell if any errors occur by not having messenger, you can also go into the folder and delete all the contents (select all the files hold "Shift" and press "Del" ;) ).

Alternatively do a google search, there are different ways of removing messenger depending on your OS build.

You cant get rid of windows messenger - msn needs it as a base. The most you can do is set it to run in the backgound and uncheck everything that says run at startup and whatnot.

Windows messenger and msn are two different things. You can remove windows messenger and still be able to use msn. If you read up, you will see where I explained how to remove the program, but I'll paste it again.
