  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I am interested in advice on moving to Toronto. I'd like to spend two or three years pilgrimage there.

I come from Sydney, never have I seen actual snow...

I'd most likely want to rent. Get maps, ride a scooter, attend church at the airport, know what to eat, and wear, where to shop, socialize, see the Dr, chemists, call services...

I'd want to use the net, and know sales techniques considered to be polite in the area...

The greater Toronto Area is called the GTA ( Greater Toronto Area ) by the locals. One thing to know is that the Toronto area is quite large and traffic can be challenging. So the first consideration is to confine your search to the area close to where you want to attend church. TACF has satellite churches around the area for this reason. But if you want to attend the airport church , then you will want to look on the West side of Toronto near the airport. That narrows it down to a very specific area.

What sort of visa do you plan to apply for? I am sure the tourist stamps (or whatever they are called) only last for 3-6 months, depending on your country (not sure about Australia). Immigration may be suspicious after you leave the country and come back multiple times in a row, and ban you from re-entering.

Have you considered any of this stuff?

If you plan on getting a sort of work visa, you need an employer to sponsor you BEFORE you enter the country. That means finding a job in Canada before you come. There is a working holiday visa, good for six months, but I believe you are too old for that.

Regarding driving, you WILL need a Canadian driver's license if you are staying that long. An international drivers license is only good for 3 or 6 months in Ontario province (I forget, but I am pretty sure it's less than a year). After that, it is invalid. You MUST get a Canadian license. As a tourist, it is not possible. You will NEED a legit visa to get one. Same with health. You can only get under the Ontario Health Insurance Program if you have an actual visa! Even then, it is a three month waiting period from when you enter the country WITH a visa (NOT as a tourist).

I have no idea what you mean by "pilgrimage", but, as I heavily implied, it ought to involve some sort of work visa. What do you have to offer Canada that Canadians cannot already offer, in order to get a visa?

I strongly suggest you think about these things if you haven't already (it appears that you have not, as of yet).

Thank you for the insights.

No problem. Hopefully they help you get a better idea of the ins and outs of immigrating (even for a few years). It is more complicated than many people think. If you can find someone to hire you, it would help immensely.

Hello
I will be visiting Toronto in June, for school. We'll be visiting the Wilfred Laurier university, I'm doing MBA and its part of our international module. I am going to stay for an extra few days, and was wondering if you'd have some ideas on where to stay, and what attractions we could go see during our extra time there?
Would appreciate your inputs!

I'm in Toronto and I adore it. Come to Toronto!

There is a wide and diverse Christian community here - just a matter of minding one.

Hi I have been thinking about staying/visiting in Toronto. I don't know though could some answer my some what difficult question- Can I enter Canada and leave to go back to Australaisia with a non machine readable passport ? or if I get a machine readable passport what do they do with it? Is it like Australia with the scanning scanning the face and hand? Or is it you give it to them the passport gets scanned but unlike Australia you as your body doesn't get scanned like your face and placing your hand on the scan? - that's not Austria lol its the Australia , NewZealand region.
