  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How accurate do you think the current movie ratings system (G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17) is? Do you base your movie choices off of ratings to any degree, such as abstaining from NC-17 films or taking your children only to G ratings? I ask because there seems such a disparity in films with PG-13 ratings. Some are completely childish, kid centered, with nothing objectionable. Others have hints of sexuality, some swearing, etc. Do you think the system as it stands is valid and useful, or should it be revamped? If you're non-US, what type of system if any do you have for rating films?

My biggest problem is how lax the PG-13 and R ratings have gotten. 15 years ago, you would probably hear a few swears and a little this-and-that and be PG-13. Look at all the sexual innuendo in Shrek 2 though. It's a very innocent movie, but there is way too much stuff that's implied. (Granted, with Shrek 2, I think the problem is more with the movie than with the ratings system)

I guess I could say that the ratings system isn't that bad, but movies could use some better judgement on what's included.

20-25 years ago, you could get PG movies with nudity.

I like the current system as long as the explain why a movie is rated whatever it is rated.

i think that sometimes it is accurate, but sometimes it is a load of ****. like in the states sometimes movies (such as lord of the rings) are rated 18+ (or at least thats what ive heard) and taht is totally going overboard. and sometimes they will say "language" and you will hear like, maybe a "damn" possibly a "****" and it is rated 14a and that is the only thing i the whole movie that is bad. and there is only like 1 or 2 of them. so i think that the system is messed up. the system has failed.

I don't think they should have 'ratings' as such. Just points about what it contains (e.g. V - violence, S - sex, etc). I get pretty tired of lazy and whiny parents complaining about these kind of things. Such a system would force them into at least a bit of mental exertion.
