  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi and welcome. Motivation can be the toughest issue. I started my journey with anger at my dh for telling me I could not do it. It worked well until I got below his weight and he became supportive. Now I struggle to stay on and have regained 30 pounds and am digging deep to find the resons for overeating and eating whenI am not hungyr and have been amazed at what I have found, So I am slowly gaining the wisdom and motivation I need to finish the last 40-50 pounds. Also the change was so dramatic I had lost that feeling of being overweight, but that is back in spades!!!

For some the motivation comes from health issues or the need for more energy to p;lay with kids. Look at what you don't like about how you are now and what you would like if you lost the weight and see if you can find your motivation. Step away from shame and look for power to make choices. Know that diet may take time, but in the process you will gain the skills to eat healthy and maintain a weight of your choice. I have made many missteps, but I dig deep to find out why and learn from it to make wiser choices in the future.

I am truly missing the goodies of the season fight now, but I changed my focues to, this is diet this year, and next year I am going to leran how to eat some of this in limited amounts safely!!! That is one of my goals, to keep that focus!!!

As aChristian, I have head to come face to face with the fact thqt I seek comfort in food before I seek it in God-that is idolatry and out of whack!!! Jus this am I surrender my eating and hunger to the Lord and will have to face that issue of over the coming weeks, constantly reminding myself. I found some wonderful Bible Studies by the First Place that have helped keep my focus on God and not what I will look like (My focus was there much too long!!!) Than i also have recently bought the book STOP IT by the same author and am slowly working my way through it. it is very appropriate for where I am now.

Sorry for the long response, but feel free to pm me anytime, we can support each other if you would like!!!

Well done for losing weight ! You have done so well ! I think that i have given up hope now of ever losing weight, even though i desperately need to ! It just seems too difficult to resist temptation. How have you managed to avoid temptation to eat unhealthy food ? Whenever i try to diet i seem to gain even more weight, and i can not stop thinking of food constantly!!!! I feel so ashamed as a Christian, and i know that this obesity is a bad witness too. Please pray for me. :groupray: THANK YOU SO MUCH. God bless you.

Hi Drifter.

How are you getting along with the weight loss?

I just read your post from December...just thought I'd say hi!

I have five stone to lose (at the least) I started taking positive steps recently. I ask Lord Jesus to be with me all the way. I can already feel the excess weight affecting my health, my back and knees are under strain.

So, if would be great to hear from you, or anyone, who is on the road to losing weight!

God bless,

V. L.

Hi all

I can really only speak from my own experience here. :) When you have a bit of weight to lose the thought of how you go about achieving it (and sticking to it!) can be quite daunting, I know I have felt like I'd never get there! What I did was try and set myself small goals, and try and change certain things about my lifestyle over time.

Also, I quite like this thread for a little bit of encouragement :D

Hello Violet. I dont know how to measure by stones but I am about 60 pounds over weight and trying to get it off. I also have developed problems breathing, weak knees and an aching back. I am just "trying" to excercise more and cut back my food intake. So far I was down by 7 lbs then gained 3 from what I dont know. But I am still less than when I started.

Hi there scoutswife!!

I think a stone is 15lbs. Please someone jump in here and correct me if I got it wrong!! ;)

However, you lost 7 lbs...well done! I read an article online last night which said that the scales can't always be trusted - the amount of times I have got on them, only to be dismayed when I appear to have gained 4 - 5 lbs overnight. Lo and behold, out comes the cheeseboard as I need comforting!! So, a 'weight gain' as such could just be water or water retention around the time of a period. Also, muscle weighs a lot more than fat. So if you have been exercising, you may have gained some muscle!!

Anyway, I am no expert. When I go to the doctor's surgery and the nurse insists on weighing me  it is always in Kilogrammes which I don't have a clue about!!! I think most Brits my age and older are a bit clueless when it comes to Kgs. Ha! Ha!

The thread on 'Before and After' testimonies is a winner too - thank you Kehaar!!!

I tried to go for a long walk yesterday, but my back hurt too much - I am going to exercise again today. Bring it on!!! I ask Lord Jesus to stay close to us and guide us in all things - He wants the best for us all. Amen. :prayer:

God bless,

V. L. xxx

 Hello and thank you for the prayer Violet.
I weighed again this morning ( i know I shouldnt) and I was down 2 pounds from yesterday, WHoo Hoo!
Then I decided to take measurements and start going by inches. Boy did I get disheartened when I saw in inches how big I had got:( .
The numbers will come down though, with excercise and cutting back the food intake. I am reassuring myself so that I wont fall back into comfort eating.
Thanks for praying for me and all of you are in my prayers also.

i've been struggling with overeating for about 5 years now. I had an eating disorder where i overexercised, but ever since i "recovered," from that eating disorder, i began binging frequently. I'm at a pretty normal weight, and i am an athlete, but i can't seem to control my eating. I know it is connected to my emotions, but I really need a way to control this problem, because it is sooo unhealthy and it depresses me.

Are there any strategies that have to do with God that worked for other people?

Drink green tea.

Choose the can of veggies, not the snack bag.

Open some tuna, not the bread and carbs.

Have some chicken, not bacon and ham.

Try turkey, not beef.

Have a veggie burger, without the bread!

Try some veggies.

Drink water, tea, lots of it...feel better soon.

G7: I Hate all that stuff...Canned fish ugh? Gree tea tastes like what rhymes with it. I think that's ONE of my problems everything that is "healthy" seems like a punishment--no fun... I am working on more water and that helps. What else you got that's Normal for Southern folks (raised on pie--we make pie from everthing from sweet potatoes to pecans) and homemade icecream?
