Most of us here have the WRONG idea of fasting

Isa 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Yes I believe this very much.But it takes about 3 full days ,for us to reap the things we need.Not easy to fast!

Fasting causes us to walk in our spirits .Our spirits will not sin ,but will follow the LORD 100% .
Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

What you do not understand is?When we fast,We are causing the flesh to be put down ,Then the spirit ,which is who you really are! Can gain control.
Then we walk in our spirit.And do not sin!

JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SPIRIT.Not the flesh.

what he is trying to say he the only thing that can deny the spirit is living in the flesh. When you take Fleshy things out of your life it give oppitunity for the spirit to step in and do its thing. fasting is about sacriface. you can fast from negative words, conversations with the oppsite sex, music, internet, sweets, you can fast from anything that is worldly and can block out the ability in walking in the spirit. just wanted to clearify it alittle.

And I'll tell you why.

Fasting isn't about the ammount of food you eat or don't eat, it isn't about detox (unless you're doing it for physical reasons only), and it isn't about denying anything physical (although you can deny something physical).


Jesus says when mentioning the topic of fasting that it is to get closer to God. Heck, when you say "I'm going to fast for 24 hours" that can be either:


A) Not eating, just drinking for a day.


B) Reading your Bible, praying, and getting close to God for the whole day, wake to sleep.



Keep in mind brothers and sisters: fasting isn't about food, it's about getting closer to God.

You are exactly right brother. Abstaining from food, is a way to come closer to God. The necesity when fasting is not to fast but to get closer to God. Fasting can often times bring us closer to God.

fasting is a way to control our materialistic self.

fasting in my denomination (Orthodox Christian) includes abstaining from meat, dairy products, fish (some times), even from marital relationships (optional).

any kind of fasting is better done through the guidance of a spiritual father (priest) who will consider each person's individuality, weaknesses and strong points.

abstaining from the tv, or other materialistic issues (e.g. clubbing), and focusing more on prayer is another important aspect of fasting.

so controlling our food consumption is only the peek of the iceberg (what is seen)
