What card? I'm sort of frustrated with the performance of my Radeon 9600 (plain old, not Pro or XT)... But then, $100 video cards are always sorta cheap.

I rented it and tried it for a few days. But eventually I had to bring it back, so... lol. I got stuck on it anyways. But it did seem like a good game.

Nope...Morrowind has a companion GUI that enables you to write your own plug ins but it's limited compared to hard coding.

Huh. I got a 9600, non-Pro; I guess the difference is pretty substantial. On the other hand, now that I know to run at 1280x960 instead of 1600x1200, it's pretty livable.

I have a 7800 (which is really a 7500 with better GL drivers) in my laptop, I should see how that does.

your Cd Rom has a lot to do with it too. We found out accidentally. I got him a super speed drive and the game smooted Waaaay out

CD? I don't use no stinking CD! I have the "disk" in GameDrive, so I don't have to cart disks around.

Then I have no idea why it's choppy. Where are you in then Morrowind world? Are you using downloaded plugins?

Just running around the first couple of cities. It's pretty smooth if I set my display for 1280x960, pretty bad if I try to do 1600x1200, just plain pathetic if I try to turn on the TRUFORM spline stuff (using a plugin prog). I mean, like, 3-5 fps. I guess the thing to do is just play with that stuff off at a lower resolution for now, then get a new video card in a year or two.

Yeah, it seems like you would need a water-cooled, mega-gaming machine to get it just right. We can dream, right?

I took the cheap way out and bought an Xbox. Looks great and smooth as silk.

I absolutely love GameDrive. Unfortunately, there are now some "copy-protection" schemes it can't seem to trick, so I have to download cracks.

There is deep irony to the need to download cracks to play a game you spent $50 on.

Yeah, at what, 640x480?

Maybe when I'm rich I'll be able to get a better gaming machine. Looks like the game is now entirely GPU-bound; the CPU is sitting idle.

I really wish Bethesda would release patches for the last couple of bugs - crash to desktop on loading saved games, and the bugs with DontThreadLoad=0. If they fixed those, the game would be a lot smoother.
