  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Actually, the RLDS(meaning both the C of C and the Restorationist branches) never had any special temple ritual or 'five points of fellowship.' The main differences are:

1) They deny that Brigham Young ever had the authority to lead the church. Instead, they believe that Joseph Smith III is the rightful heir to Joseph Smith, Jr.

2) They disavow polygamy, blood atonement, celestial marriages, baptism for the dead, the plurality of gods and the Adam-God doctrine. They claim that none of these were introduced by Joseph Smith, Jr.

3) The C of C has deemphasized the Book of Mormon as well as the divinity of Christ. It's also adopted a more pluralistic theology. The Restorationist branches that have splintered off of the C of C have have adopted a more traditional theolgy. Because of the deemphasis of the Bible and the divinity of Christ in the C of C, I'd say(IMHO) that the more traditional Restorationist splinters have a more Christian outlook, in spite of their reemphasis of The Book of Mormon.:liturgy:
