  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

and they were silly enough to ask me if I knew the names and addresses of non knowledgeable Catholics who they could evangelize.
That is hilarious.

Missonary: G'dafternoon, ma'am, may we have a few moments of your time to talk to you about the Church of the Latter Day Saints?

You: No thanks, I'm a knowledgeable Catholic.

Missionary: Well, do you know where we might find some ignoramuses?

Too funny.

..........I went to the UT forum and asked about the abominable Church thing. Here was the answer that I received:

First, and most important, please understand that your quote comes from a wholly non-doctrinal source. "Mormon Doctrine" is a book of opinion written by former, second-tier leader of the Church. Second, as to this particular opinion as expressed above, the First Presidency of the Church requested the author of said book to officially retract said statement, and subsequent editions of the book do not say this. Finally, this is not the official doctrine of the Church. It is our belief that the so-called "Great and Abominable Church" is the organization of Satan upon this Earth, and that all those who fight against the Gospel of Jesus Christ partake or join-in the Great and Abominable Church.

Hope that helps

The irony is deafening.

Maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions on what we think we know about what a church teaches, until we find out for sure.

If we don't like it when people do it to us, then perhaps it's wise not to do it to them.

Thanks Miss S...

I was a member for quite some time. I was baptised, ordained to be a priest, and was preparing to go on my mission when I came home to the Catholic Church.

If you have any questions, I've done countless hours of research on all aspects of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints regarding theology, scripture (I know the Book of Mormon just as well as the New Testament), and lately I've been doing more research on the history.

Its hard to find unbiased information, but from my experiences of being a member, I truly believe that it is an institution founded by Satan.

With love,
Simon

Just to add to your post and for clarification -- a priest in LDS is not the same as a Priest in the Catholic faith...just FYI. And "ordained", is not the same as "ordained" in the Catholic faith.

Perhaps Brother S. can elaborate on that.

That's interesting. Why?

Michelle, I imagine that you WOULD get that answer. I've gotten that before. Whatever it is was spoken by one of their Prophets, however it was one of their OLD Prophets--and not to be followed (except that back then anyone who didn't follow what the Prophet said, was condemned). Now, only that which is said by the NEW Prophet is to be quoted as believed. You'll not get a straight answer. It's like nailing jello to a wall.

While they claim to you one thing. A missionary told me that if the Catholic Church did NOT go astray, Mormonism would never had been NEEDED. While their 11th Article of Faith is "We claim the privilege of worshipping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may", they send out thousands of young men and women EVERY YEAR to proselytize--not evangelize--but merely to make those they meet Mormon. While we are told that they don't believe that the Catholic Church is the "Church of Satan" anylonger, their endowment ceremony had to be changed to REMOVE the reference of Protestant Ministers as being "Hirelings of Satan"--and it couldn't have been that long ago. I could probably give you many other quotes about the Catholic Church being the Church of Satan, (even one about Protestant Churches being her daughters), and even one where Joseph Smith says that Jesus calls ALL Christian Churches an abomination, but they are all by former Prophets and so not supposed to be believed any longer... However, my own daughter tells me that the Catholic Church has "strange and really weird" beliefs which she wants NO part of... :::Sigh:::

Like I said, cogizant dissonance rules. Heck even the now President Hinckley told an TV interviewer that Ezra Snow's "As man IS, God once was and As God IS, man shall become," was more of a couplet than anything and that he didn't know IF they still taught it. He seemed to be saying that they no longer believe that man can become God. Then he went back to his upper eschelon and assured them that he does indeed know what is taught. And if you notice, one of the first lessons of the missionaries is Eternal Progression.

So what are we to learn? Whatever APPEARS acceptable will be told to you.

Perhaps Brother S. can elaborate on that.

I would be happy to!

In the Mormon church there are two priesthoods - the Aaronic (which the Mormons claim is the same priesthood held by Aaron, Moses' brother) and the Melchizedek (which the Mormons claim is the priestood held by Melchizedek from the Old Testament.)

The Aaronic priesthood is bestowed upon young men starting at the age of 12, when, if they are found worthy, become Deacons. At age 14, teachers - and at age 16, priests.

The primary role of Deacons are to serve the Sacrament (similar to Communion) during church. The primary role of teachers are to do just that - teach, and the primary role of priests are to bless the sacrament. The prayer that is said to bless the sacrament must be said word for word, without err, or it must be repeated for it to be recognized as valid. The Mormon church uses everyday bread..such as Mrs. Bairds, and water.

At age 18, if found worthy, all males recieve the Melchizedek priesthood starting with Elder. Elder's serve 2 year missions - they cannot choose where they go - and they must fund themselves to a large degree. In Doctrine and Covenants it is called "the Holy Priesthood, after the Order of the Son of God."

They believe these two priesthoods were restored to the earth during the time of the Restoration, when Joseph Smith began to recieve revelation from God after pondering and praying about a verse in James. I'm sure someone has already gone over the "First Vision" in this thread.

--

As to why I believe it to be of Satanic origin...

Starting with Adam and Eve...what did the serpent say to Eve to persuade her? He said "ye shall be as gods.." (Genesis 3:5)

The goal of every Mormon is to be good enough so when they die, they can become gods and goddesses, having sexual relations with their partners to populate worlds they create, just as they claim God does to populate ours.

It's interesting that the Mormon church does not teach a doctrine of original sin...because their entire church, in effect, is based off of it.

As to the tree of the knowledge of good and evil...there is a story in the Book of Mormon I would like to point to...

Lehi, a supposed Mormon prophet in the Americas, has a vision of a "Tree of Life" ...partaking of its fruit, so the story says in this "scripture" passage, is the goal of every Mormon. (1 Nephi 8)

Lehi's tree of life is the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Those who partake of it will die just as God said in Genesis.

This is only the beginning of why I think it is originated by Satan...the serpent..the master of deception.

With love,
Simon
