  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What about banishing Bishops? That did happen. If they'd have stayed, would they not have been killed?

I'm not trying to put you on the spot bro, just saying that these kind of things happen in every religion, not just the Mormons.
Just out of curiosity, what source is this?

The only reason that I can think of is if a bishop had fallen under heresy. Heresy in St. Constantine's day was Arianism.

You know, I was Mormon for a few weeks. As I got deeper involved, I realized that they teach some things that I simply cannot bring myself to agree with. There are some things that they teach that they won't tell prospective converts. One thing they teach is that Mary had sex with God in order to bring about Jesus. They will deny this if you ask their missionaries about it but it is contained within their official books. That and I didn't know what they believed about the different races until I read that post here in this thread. That is shocking but yet not totally shocking. I wish I could find a list of their secretive teachings. I am officially leaving the Mormon church by writing a letter to the "bishop" (pastor) asking him to remove my records from the church. The bishop told me he would comply with this request so long as I sent a signed letter requesting it.

Honestly sweetie, Mormon missionaries are the least knowledgeable Mormons on the planet. There's a good reason why they send out teenage boys and not older men.

One thing they teach is that Mary had sex with God in order to bring about Jesus. They will deny this if you ask their missionaries about it but it is contained within their official books.

Unfortunately, no "official" text actually does say this. Official being the Standard Works (ie the Mormon scriptures) and two or three carefully selected books. It is implied in the Journal of Discourses (general conference talks of the 19th century) and Mormon Apostle John Widtsoe says it outright in his book "A Rational Theology". But that's how they deny such things, claiming they're either not official, or never were to begin with.

That and I didn't know what they believed about the different races until I read that post here in this thread. That is shocking but yet not totally shocking.

Indeed, one would think that if God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, he would either be a racist, or not.

I wish I could find a list of their secretive teachings.

Send me a PM. I'll help you out. Otherwise, I'd recommend these books:

If nothing else, I hope the experience has helped you out on your spiritual journey! :)

Good luck. From what others have told me, it isn't that easy. You might want to seek out others that have been successful, and follow their advice. Couldn't hurt.

Check it out, listen to the podcast...and leave your judgements at home :)

Mormons may not have the most....truthful view of things, and I know that is putting it midly, but they teach family, community and responsiblity for ones actions... There are some positives to this.

One Mormon founder claimed that there were some sins that Jesus's blood could not cleanse so realy human blood is needed. He said if he found his wife having sex with another man, he would gladly put a spear through both of them for by it he would cleanse their sin:eek:

You are speaking of "blood atonement" and it's not just for sexual sins. Happily, it's fallen out of practice and most LDS aren't even aware of the history of the practice, but I hear that it may have been one of the reasons the state of Utah employs the capital punishment of death by firing squad.

Hmmm, well all I know is I am going to try the letter first and if that doesn't work then I guess I'll have to try something else.
