Mormon for President?
More than twice as many say they'd oppose a Muslim or a Latter-day Saint than a Jew or a Catholic. Mitt Romney could have a problem.
By Elizabeth Mehren, Times Staff Writer

BOSTON — Most traditional barriers to religion in presidential elections have toppled, a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has found. In particular, the survey released today shows that anti-Semitism and anti-Catholicism are fading among voters.

But uneasiness about some religions persists. Thirty-seven percent of those questioned said they would not vote for a Mormon presidential candidate, and 54% said no to the prospect of a Muslim in the White House.

personally, as long as they're not trying to impose they're beliefs on the country I don't really care if they're mormon, atheist, muslim, christian, or martian. I would vote for the person I think would do the best job in office.

Of course this is assuming I were in America and had voting rights

Personally I think I'd rather have a Mormon for a president than any atheist. They stand for the same morals and values as I do. Mormon is just a label and labels do more harm than good.

I agree, too.

For those concerned with a Mormon president imposing his religion, I have as much fear any Mormon president could have any success at that as I fear getting hit by a car on February 30, while standing on moon.

I would agree with you here tigress. Though I am opposed to many Mormon doctrines, where a person stands on certain issues is the most important factor in my voting decisions.

Ideally that would work, unfortuantly objectivitity doesn't exist. Whoever is president would be trying to push his agenda, knowing a little bit about Muslim, Mormon doctrines...that scares me. Also knowing how nutty athiest are, that's just as bad. The ACLU has already tried to remove or change names of signs that have christian origin even with their historical value to this country.
