Is there a general US Mormon population trend toward vaccine acceptance or rejection?

Russell M. Nelson - Wikipedia

The current head of the church is a retired heart surgeon still celebrated in the medical community for pioneering several new techniques as well as helping to modernize surgical practices in China.

As you can imagine, when COVID became a thing he took about a week to analyze the best reports he could get his hands on in that time and then acted as decisively as possible given what was known at the time. Most congregations are still operating under the COVID restrictions he and lower-level leaders put in place.

He's been pushing hard for people to be vaccinated, and even made a point of being publicly vaccinated himself in an effort to show that for most individuals it's safe.*

So he at least is trying to encourage healthy living and better lifestyle choices among the membership.

*Point of note: one of my brothers had a reaction to his second shot, whereas my mom did not. Given the history of food allergies on my dad's side, this has caused a bit of concern about whether or not there's a potential for reaction based on this and so my individual relatives are justifiably concerned.

It's in keeping with past projects undertaken for public benefit, and as I also noted some of these business ventures have been spun off (like a life insurance company) or sold (like ZCMI) once the public need no longer exists.

It's the kind of demand-side economics many demand-side economists wish they could see a government do...

IIRC they were one of the first large religious organizations to cancel or have large meetings go virtual. The LDS closed Wards and Temples pretty early on, I believe.

I always viewed life insurance companies as a business.

No one is forced or pushed to either accept or reject the vaccine. We believe in agency. I myself, would like to see Covid wiped out.

The church uses a "lay" ministry that in mainstream denominations would be referred to as a "priesthood of believers". All men over a certain age can hold at least some level of priesthood if they're found to be in good standing with the church, and so in 2019 the church started a push towards encouraging more at-home learning and leadership. As part of it, the church also began pushing people to be more active with visitation, especially with people unable to make it to regular services.

So when COVID happened and the decision was made that it was, indeed, as bad as the reports said it was, it wasn't that big a deal for people to go ahead and switch to at-home services and following up via social media or video conference.

There's plenty of gripes I have with the Mormon Church on a ideological level, but "hypocrisy when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is in terms of the charity aspects of their faith" isn't one of them, they're entirely consistent in that regard. They're one of the few religious groups I see that take that aspect to heart at such a high percentage.

I still remember a few years back when my dad officially entered the "ending stage" of his cancer, and could no longer do things around their house, their neighbors (a Mormon family), mowed their lawn, did their grocery shopping for them, and even recruited members of their church to help me and my brother & cousin when we were putting a new roof on their garage for them one weekend...

And wouldn't accept a penny for any of it even though I tried on multiple occasions to pay them for their time and effort (I live almost an hour away from their house, so couldn't get out there on a daily basis to help with certain things).

Even tried to sneak a check into a "thank you" card I mailed them, they cashed it, and gave the money to my mom.

Charity and "looking out for your neighbors" is one aspect where (in my humble atheistic opinion), the Mormon Church stands head and shoulders above many other religious groups.
