• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

im having this problem where i feel like im doing something sinful and wrong when i touch my teeth together. this has happend before but went away but its come back. each time i let my teeth touch together when i talk or eat or or just when i let my teeth touch together at all i feel like im sinning and doing something wrong.
this is really effecting me. its effecting the way i speak and its effecting the way that i hold my mouth. my friend that is a pastor told me that i need to ignore these things making me feel like and think that im sinning and doing something wrong when i touch my teeth together. he said that there is nothing wrong with touching my teeth together.
anyone have any thoughts?

Dude, from one OCD sufferer to another, there is no way that it could possibly be wrong to touch your teeth together. That's how they work. God made them for chewing.

I know what it's like to be plagued by irrational thoughts. I know how reasonable they can seem at the time. By all means, what you are dealing with now are not rational thoughts. It's always easier for someone to see from the outside.

thank you for your thoughts. its just that each time i let my teeth touch together i feel like i have done something wrong. i was able to eat just a bit ago and when i was eating i felt like i had to chew lightly so as to not touch my teeth together to hard.
something else thats been happening at times is that when i go to touch my teeth together i get bad thoughts and then at times i feel like i have to open my mouth up to cancel out the bad thoughts before i can touch my teeth together or i will feel like im doing something wrong when i touch my teeth together before canceling out the bad thoughts.
this is a real hard battle on me and im having a tough time with this battle.

Are you seeing a counselor/taking meds, drummingman? You may need to get some more help with this that way is what I'm thinking. If you are on medication, it might need a change or change in dosage.

Also, I would advise treating this as OCD. In other words, recognize that there truly is nothing sinful about your teeth touching. Just ignore the thoughts. This is one of the most effective methods of getting them to stop. Just let them come. If they come, just ignore them. Don't do the "canceling" either. Just leave the thoughts alone! Tell God ONE time only that this is what you're doing if this makes you feel better about it. (This is a concession to OCD but it generally makes it more acceptable to someone struggling with OCD.) Go about your day. Remind yourself that this is just OCD. Don't give the thoughts significance. I know this isn't easy when you are battlling OCD, but this is how you can stop them.

Praying for you :prayer:
