In his remarks Wednesday, Biden said that the federal government would begin to replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve when the price per barrel of oil reaches $70. Former President Donald Trump tried to add 77 million barrels to the reserve in 2020 when oil went for about $20 per barrel, but House Democrats blocked the plan.

Biden claimed in his remarks that he had done nothing to impede US oil production — despite the fact that he took several actions to throttle exploration, drilling and transportation of oil last year.

Although domestic production has increased, Biden’s critics point out that he also attempted to impose a moratorium on new oil and gas leases on federal land, canceled the Keystone XL oil pipeline project from Canada into the US and banned oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The US Oil & Gas Administration joined the pile-on, tweeting: “Gonna keep saying this over and over. The Biden Administration has taken dozens upon dozens of actions (over 100 to date) that will make it harder to produce the very US barrels that POTUS needs to refill the SPR.”

“Americans know that Biden has resorted to gimmicks because his anti-US energy agenda has resulted in soaring gas prices,” Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement. “Democrats are to blame for the pain at the pump, the record high utility bills, and soaring energy costs. Voters know Republicans are ready to get our economy back on track and that starts with unleashing American energy.”

Americans are not stupid - they see this, just because the left is loud and shouting down these facts does not mean the facts are not true.

Why on earth would the President of the US go to Dictators thousands of miles away begging for more oil, when he could go to our neighbor in the North and pipe it in by the millions of gallons. Or go to our own oil producing states?

Canada has the third largest oil reserve on earth - it is closer, more cost effective than any other source - yet joe has never opened dialog with them for the kind of help he is asking OPEC.

"I don't know how he gets away with keep saying that he doesn't have anything to do with [high gas prices] when they've got everything to do with it," Neal Crabtree told FOX Business in an interview.

Crabtree — a member of an Arkansas pipeliners union who had worked on the Keystone XL project in Nebraska — and hundreds other workers were laid off hours after the president took office on Jan. 20, 2021. Shortly after his inauguration, Biden canceled the federal permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, a project that would have transported 830,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada to Texas.

Biden's executive order nixing the pipeline stated that the U.S. would prioritize the "development of a clean energy economy" instead of fossil fuel production.

The Keystone pipeline was designed to let Canada ship oil to the Gulf of Mexico, not for the US.
And moving to a clean energy society will reap many more benefits and insure that OPEC will never be able to sink our economy again.
No more needless wars (reference Bush 41 and 43) in oil producing countries because oil will be a cheap commodity when we use less.

In the meantime we need affordable oil.

The evidence contradicts that.

Because oil prices reflect net global supply.

You know we are a net oil exporter, right?

(For this same reason I do think his strategic petroleum reserve releases are silly and pure politics. But he has to appeal to Americans - whos median intellect I commented on earlier).

Because oil prices reflect net global supply.
And if we increased our domestic supply the increase in supply would force prices down, but that is not what Biden wants, he is not concerned about the people of this nation.

Yes, but the effect would be small. A few drops in the global bucket. Thats why the production by other countries will matter regardless of what we do.

But Im not even arguing for low oil prices. Our biosphere, including humans, cannot afford that. High prices hurt, but if we have any faith in markets, they will drive alternatives and efficiencies.

So it seems it is perfectly all right to compromise the security of our nation by reducing our oil reserves to a 40 year low all in an effort to bring prices down prior to an election but at the same time say that an increase in our local supply of product has no effect on prices. Right? And it is quite all right to force people into a position of having to make a choice between heating their homes and feeding their family all to facilitate moving away from carbon fuels, the fact that we are not even close to being ready with the appropriate infrastructure to support that move is of no consequences. The voters are going to speak very soon. I hope those who are experiencing tunnel vision listen.

I did say in this thread that I think the reserve releases are dumb. Its just theater to give the impression he's "doing something".

As for people hurting, there's plenty of wealth in this county to help people out with. But fundamentally, dangerous and unhealthy pollution has to have a price. Im sure industry and individuals balked when burdened with the expense of not just dumping their waste in the nearest river. Pollution cannot be free to do.

How about a good healthy amount of reality for those idealists. If the U.S. eliminated all pollution it would be like removing 5 gallons of water from Lake Superior. So the American people should suffer and allow the rest of the world (the major sources of pollution are doing little to nothing to mitigate it) to gain a financial advantage all to accomplish almost nothing other than satisfy the foolish goals of a few misguided people.

First off, the goal thriving biosphere thats healthy for humans and other life is not foolish. I would really have to question your basic values if you think it is.

For sure theres a huge problem with individual country approaches to whats basically a collective global problem. What individual would voluntarily and unilaterally place themselves at a relative disadvantage compared to others in service of its values? Obviously its morally right to do so. But morality is a luxury in most peoples day to day calculus.

The best answer is that the change is coming, and the country best prepared for it will suffer the least and prosper the most in the long term, both by mitigating the shock at home, and by being the global leader in the technologies required.

What is foolish is thinking that the U.S. could or should lead the way when other nations are simply taking advantage of our foolishness while they profit. If we want our nation to survive we need to get past being idealists and face world reality.

Yeah I just paid 3 consecutive electric bills over $500 the last 3 months. They’ve never been that high as long as I’ve live here. Gas prices have increased by 50%, beef and chicken have increased by 50%. What used to cost me $27 for 10lbs of hamburger now costs me $40. And while all this is going on my pay has only increased 4%. I was considering filing for bankruptcy 2 months ago but if this continues its only a matter of time before I’m out on the street and my kids are in foster care!!

I am sorry to hear that. It is just starting to get cold so many families are going to have a very hard time all do to the mismanagement of the Biden administration. Frankly it makes me angry that Biden seems not to care about anything other than staying in power.

Its the height of reality denial to carry on as we have been doing.

You can see this explicitly in the attitudes toward climate change. Remember back when..... denial meant warming wasnt happening at all: "the thermometers are in the wrong places" and all the other oil company disinfo. Well no one believes that anymore. Repeat this pattern for other aspects of the problem.

Radical short term-ism is not "facing reality". Reagans Sec of Interior told us live on Christian radio that any care for our environment was misplaced because the end times are right around the corner. Well, he's gone -but we're here and have to contend with the legacy of that immoral attitude.

Yeah I’m anxious to see exactly how Biden plans to replace all gas stations with charging stations when the fastest electric car charger takes 45 minutes to fully charge a battery. Yeah how long are those lines going to be when it takes each car 45 minutes to charge as opposed to 3-4 minutes to refuel? Another thing people fail to realize is that the expected maximum range of an electric car varies drastically and it is based on driving the vehicle with no headlights on, no AC or heater, in an attempt to advertise the maximum number the car is able to drive in the most ideal conditions. They also don’t tell you how drastically the temperature affects that estimated maximum range. In the winter time in extreme cold conditions batteries don’t perform anywhere near the same as they do in warmer temperatures and that range is dropped by 40-60%.

How to lower oil prices:
How to decrease the stranglehold OPEC puts us in:
It's the law of supply and demand. As we use oil less, turning to sources like solar, wind, nuclear, and geothermal, we won't care as much about oil. OPEC will try to play their games and raise prices and it won't work because we won't need them. The way to energy Independence is to use the natural resources of solar and wind along with judicious use of nuclear power.
Centering our energy use on oil will keep us entrapped by OPEC for many years to come.

Biden inherited an energy independent country. So the only "stranglehold" OPEC has on us is the one Biden put us in. Therefore, the solution is remove Biden.
